3. Press and hold the operating button until the detector responds (i.e. the
detector LED changes from green to red). Typical response time is less than
10 seconds.
4. Release the operating button.
3.2
Simulator time out
If the detector does not respond within approximately 60 seconds, the simulator
LEDs switch off (time out). If this occurs, ensure that the simulator is properly
aligned and within range, and re-attempt the test. If the simulator times out a
second time, contact Dräger.

Troubleshooting
NOTICE
Fault finding or repair by non-Dräger personnel is prohibited as it could damage
the simulator.
If the FS-5000 Flame Simulator fails to operate, recharge the batteries. For
further information see: "Battery changing", page 7.If the simulator still fails to
operate after recharging the batteries, contact Dräger for repair.

Maintenance
There is no periodic maintenance of the FS-5000 Flame Simulator. User tasks
are limited to cleaning and battery charging when required.
Do not attempt to replace the window as the glass and the front cover are
individually matched pairs to meet the stringent requirement of the Hazardous
area certification. The threaded portions of the simulator are flame paths. These
threads and the flame paths around the window are not be repaired.
5.1
Cleaning
When required, clean the LED window with a mild detergent solution and a soft
cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry with a clean lint free cloth or tissue.

WARNING
Do not charge the batteries or remove the rear cover in a potentially explosive
atmosphere.
Tools required
Charger (supplied with the FS-5000 Flame Simulator)
1.5 mm hexagon key
5.2.1
Normal charging
1. Release the locking screw on the rear cover using the 1.5 mm hexagon key.
2. Remove the rear cover by unscrewing it counterclockwise.
3. Connect the charger to the flame simulator.
4. Connect the charger to a power supply, using one of the supplied plug
adaptors if necessary, and switch on the supply. (Compatible power supplies
are marked on the charger.)
5. Wait until the red LED on the charger stops flashing.
6. Press the yellow button on the charger.
● Pressing the yellow button completely discharges the batteries before
recharging.
● A fast charge can be applied by not pressing the yellow button. For
further information see: "Fast charging", page 7.
7. Wait until the green LED illuminates.
● Full recharge takes from 3 hours to 10 hours.
8. Disconnect the charging plug, fit the rear cover, and tighten the locking
screw.
5.2.2
Fast charging
If the yellow button is not pressed during normal charging, a fast charge
(approximately 1 hour duration) is applied. When a fast charge is applied, the
batteries retain memory charge, which could result in reduced operating
capacity between charging.
Repeated consecutive fast charging would progressively reduce battery
effectiveness and operating time. Dräger recommend a periodic full discharge
and recharge to optimise battery performance.
