• When grinding, the workpiece will quickly become hot. It may be necessary to quench the work
in water to prevent heat damage. The fine-grade grinding wheel will produce less heat and may
be safer to use for some materials that are easily heat damaged
• Some materials may contain trace amount of toxic materials. If you are unsure of the
composition of the workpiece, it is recommended to remove grinding dust frequently and always
wear suitable respiratory protection
• Metallic dust can damage other tools if allowed to accumulate by vents and be drawn in when
the tool is operated
• When grinding has finished for the session, remove dust and vacuum the work area, and the tool
Rotary tool handling
• Hold the tool securely, keeping hands well away from rotating parts. For most purposes, it is most
convenient to grip the tool like a pen
• Practise using the tool with scrap material before starting a job. Be aware that different
accessories will require different techniques, and may require different speed settings
• Applying excess pressure does not result in faster or more efficient performance. If the pressure
applied to the tool has a noticeable effect on the speed of the tool then reduce the pressure.
Overloading the tool will reduce its service life
• Always ensure that material is secure. If appropriate use a vice or clamp to hold the work
Accessories
• A range of accessories and consumables, including a Hobby Tool Accessory Kit 105pce, Grinding
Wheel Set 3pce, and a Cutting Disc Kit 5pce is available from your Silverline stockist. Spare parts

Maintenance
WARNING: ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any inspection,
maintenance or cleaning.
Fitting a grinding wheel
1. Remove the two grinding wheel covers, located at either end of the bench grinder, by removing
the 6 Phillips head screws
2. Unscrew the flexible rotary tool adaptor from the drive shaft, using a 12mm spanner (not
supplied)
Note: It may be necessary to secure the drive shaft, to undo the grinding wheel retaining nuts. To
secure the drive shaft, the use of two 16mm spanners (not supplied) is required. Both spanners
should be used to hold and remove the retaining nuts.
3. Unscrew the retaining nut on the right side of the bench grinder
4. Remove the grinding/polishing wheel from the drive shaft, along with both washers
5. Unscrew the retaining nut at the opposite end of the drive shaft, and remove the grinding/
polishing wheel, along with both washers
6. Re-assemble, and fit new grinding/polishing wheels if required
Note: During re-assembly, do not over-tighten the driveshaft retaining nuts. Doing so will make it
difficult to remove when disassembled at a later date.

General inspection
• Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight
• Inspect the supply cord of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs should be
carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies to extension cords
used with this tool
Cleaning
• Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly, and
shorten the machine's service life. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth.
If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes
• Clean the tool casing with a soft damp cloth using a mild detergent. Do not use alcohol, petrol or
strong cleaning agents
• Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts
Lubrication
• Slightly lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals with a suitable spray lubricant
Brushes
• Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn
• Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure, or visible sparking
• If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have them replaced at an authorised Silverline
service centre
