Regardless of the socket material, the inner socket wall should be as smooth as possible. In
laminated sockets, use e.g. a double layer of 140P41 Dacron felt for a smooth socket interior.
Make sure that the valve is integrated as distally as possible; in any case, it must be placed
below the sealing lips.
Note!
The following aspects should be checked and can help to improve the fit:
Fit
• Can the user put on the socket easily?
Volume
• Is there full contact between the sealing lips and the inner socket wall?
• Do air pockets develop when under a load? How good is the proximal fit?
Adhesion
• Is there little or no elongation?
• Is there no visible movement when pulling on the prosthesis?
• Is there rotational stability?
• Is full movement possible without affecting the adhesion?
8 Size selection
In order to determine the correct sealing lip liner size, measure the distal circumference approx.
4 cm (1 ½") above the stump tip and select the sealing lip liner size (see Fig. 12).
9 Donning
Note!
Before using a new sealing lip liner for the first time, it should be CAREFULLY washed
and dried 2 – 3 times. This reduces the initially high adhesion of the material, which
may cause skin reactions in the case of sensitive skin.
Turn the sealing lip liner iner inside out... (see Fig. 13).
...and hold the sealing lip liner as shown. Create a surface as flat as possible (see Fig. 14).
Now place this surface on the end of the stump and slide the liner carefully over the residual
limb without producing wrinkles (see Fig. 15).
Due to the especially easily sliding surface of the liner, additional aids for putting the liner on,
such as alcohol sprays or talc, are no longer necessary (see Fig. 11).
Attention!
Please do not pull on the top of the liner – this causes increased tension on the
liner edge and on the underlying skin. This then manifests itself as water blisters,
welts or similar symptoms. If wrinkles form when putting the liner on, repeat the
procedure.
