4.6.4 Automatic identification of the engine type
(does not apply when diesel adapter plugged in)
If the trigger clamp-on pickup is attached to the ignition cable of
the first cylinder, all „connections/terminal 15 (+)", as all „connec-
tions/terminal 1 (-)" are connected to the ignition coil or to the
ignition coils, the Motortester checks the engine type entered at
the idle speed. If it discovers a difference in relation to the entered
engine type, a warning symbol appears „pay attention to the
engine type" (representation inverted) in the status line. Moreover,
the discovered difference appears inverted in the status line.
When the function „automatic identification of the engine type"
(softkey F5 at the status: entry of the engine type) is selected, the
Motortester carries out a supplementary checking of the engine
type and it indicates the result under the status line.
By pressing the softkey F1, the type of engine identified is
transmitted to the status line. If the Motortester cannot positively
identify the engine type connected, a selection of the available
possibilities is proposed, which can be selected with the softkeys
F5 and F6.
Remarks:
The automatic system does not recognizes engines with unequal
spark plug gap and EFS without camshaft sensor.

4.6.5 Input and memory storage of the engine types
(does not apply when diesel adapter plugged in)
Each time it is turned on, during about 30 seconds, data for the
workshop address and the stored engine types are read from the
internal memory.
This data cannot be changed during this time.
This sub-program allows to enter the usual engine types in the
6 memory fields which are checked often enough. At the delivery
of your Motortester, the following engine types have been stored
at the factory (subject to changes):
Memory field 1:
4 cylinders, 4-stroke engine with 1 distributor
Memory field 2:
6 cylinders, 4-stroke engine with 1 distributor
Memory field 3:
4 cylinders, 4-stroke engine with 1 distributor,
TDC-sensor system: 1 pin 20° after TDC
Memory field 4:
4 cylinders, 4-stroke engine with dual-spark
ignition coils (DFS), without TDC sensor
Memory field 5: 4 cylinders, 4-stroke engine with single-spark
ignition coils (EFS) and with sensor on the
camshaft, without TDC sensor
Memory field 6:
8 cylinders, 4-stroke engine with 2 distributors
and with sensor on the camshaft, TDC sensor
system: 1 pin 20° after TDC.
Subject to changes at works!
The memory field selected is indicated, e.g.: in the picture of the
memory field 2
F1:
By pressing the key, the engine type entered in the
selected memory field is transferred to the status line.
F2:
By pressing the key, the engine type entered in the status
line is then entered in the selected memory field. The
engine type memorized until now is overwritten.
F5/6: Selection of the memory field (max. 6) where it will be
stored or where its contents will be taken over.
