2. Operating Instructions and Calibration

The OptimAir 3000 should be checked to
ensure it is complete, undamaged, correctly
assembled and any defective or damaged
parts must be replaced prior to use. Check
that the belt is secure and the respiratory
inlet covering and filters are correctly fitted
with the appropriate battery.
The battery should be fully charged (See
scetch 3) prior to use and any prolonged
storage between charging and use should
be avoided, if stored for more than 5 days
recharge battery.
2. Operating Instructions and
Calibration

2.1 Getting started

Select the appropriate OptimAir 3000, bat
tery, respiratory inlet covering with hose and
filters. Assemble the components as out
lined below in the Fitting Components sec
tion and then adjust the belt to fit around
your waist comfortably.
To switch the unit on momentarily, press the
green button.
The unit is self calibrating and will perform a
calibration routine every time it is switched
on, this takes approximately 15 seconds and
during this time free movement of air has to
be allowed from the blower. This is done with
the filters intended for use in place, but with
out connecting the hose to the unit until self
calibration has fully completed (when unit
stops beeping).
During this time a negative pressure check
can be done to ensure correct fitting of
masks. This is done by fitting the hose to the
mask and the mask to your face, then
breathe in sharply whilst sealing the end of
the hose with the palm of your hand. The
mask should pull down onto your face and
any breaks in the sealing line will be high
lighted by air movement. Readjust the mask
and repeat this procedure until no leaks
across the sealing line are observed.

There is no equivalent test that can be car
ried out with hoods and visors as these rely
on the movement of filtered air to provide
respiratory protection, but they should also
be fitted to your head and to the appropriate
hose, to be adjusted for comfort. Once the
blower has stopped beeping, connection of
the hose to the blower and making sure the
respiratory inlet covering is securely and
comfortably fitted must be completed within
1 minute, this will maximise work time in the
hazard zone.

2.2 Switching off

To switch off, press and hold the button until
the unit switches off. Always disconnect the
hose to ensure unit is in correct configura
tion for restart

2.3 Fitting Components

Battery: Insert the battery into its location
on the bottom of the unit, taking care that
the bar on the battery end engages with the
slot in the unit wall, and then push the free
end of the battery up until the latch on the
battery engages with the bottom of the unit.
To remove press the button marked 'PRESS'
and follow a reversal of the insertion proce
dure. See sketch (1) for clarification.
Hose: Push the hose end into the unit until
the bayonet is engaged and then turn to lock
the bayonet into place. The marks on the
unit and hose end allow easy line up of the
bayonet location pins. To remove, reverse
the fitting instructions See sketch (4) for
clarification.Lubricate O ring regularly.
Filters: Select the appropriate filter caps for
the filters needed to meet the challenge,
insert the filter(s) and screw the caps down
to clamp the filter (s) in place Tighten by
hand only. See sketch (2) for clarification.
