Sensor design
The chlorite sensor CLT 1 consists of three main parts, the top part, the elec-
trode shaft and the membrane cap (see figure 1). The membrane cap filled
with electrolyte forms the measurement compartment into which the elec-
trodes are immersed.
A micro-porous membrane separates the measuring compartment from the
sample medium.
The amplifier electronics are embedded in plastic in the upper part of the
electrode shaft.
The sensor has a passive 4-20 mA two-wire interface. The sensor's power
supply is located in an external controller, e.g. DULCOMETER

Function of
sensor
The chlorite measuring cell CLT 1 is a membrane-covered amperometric two
electrode probe. A gold anode is used as a collector and a silver halide-plated
cathode is used as a counter and reference electrode. The chlorite contained
in the sample water diffuses through the membrane. The constant polarisation
voltage existing between both electrodes causes the electrochemical reaction
of the chlorite on the collector. The resulting current is measured as the
primary output (amperometric measuring principle). Within the scope of opera-
tion for the measuring cell, this is proportional to the concentration of chlorite
and for this type of measuring cell pH-dependency can be disregarded. The
measuring cell's electronic amplifier converts the primary output into a tem-
perature compensated output of 4-20 mA and a chlorite reading is given by
the DULCOMETER
The measuring output of the CLT measuring cell complies with DPD regula-
tions. Consequently chlorite levels can be determined.
