− Do not measure your blood pressure if you are hot or cold, only do so when your body temperature is
normal if possible.
− Before measuring your blood pressure, wait approx. one hour if you have been subjected to physical
exertion.
− Do not stand during measurements. Sit or lay down in a relaxed position and hold your arm at the
height of your heart (see Fig. D).
− Do not move and do not speak while performing a measurement.
− Relax at least 30 minutes before you perform a measurement. Do not smoke, eat or drink and avoid
physical exertion.
− Give the circulatory system about five minutes to calm down each time before a measurement is made.
− If the measurements are not plausible, repeat the measurement.
− Wait at least five minutes before taking another measurement for the same person.
− The results of the blood pressure measurements are for information only and are no substitute for a
medical examination. Do not make any medical decisions based on your own measurements (e.g. with
respect to taking medication or its dosage). Consult your physician if you have questions about the
measurements.
