4. PHASE IDENTIFICATION

The 2 P + E adapter can be used with C.A 700,
C.A 701 or CA 711 testers:
Plug in the 2 P + E adapter in place of the touch-
prod adapter of the C.A 7xx tester.
Always carry out an Auto-test
immediately before and after using the
«adapter-tester» assembly.
Never use if the Auto-test is incorrect.
Insert the "adapter/tester" assembly into the
socket to be tested.
The 2P + E adapter has two LEDs; the one which
lights up indicates the phase side.
An additional indication is provided by the "PH"
LED on the tester:
C.A 700: the "PH" LED lights up when the phase
is on the "+" input side
C.A 701: the "PH" LED lights up when the phase
is on the "COM" input side
C.A 711: the "PH" LED lights up when the phase
is on the "L3" input side
The LEDs indicate the voltage and the buzzer
sounds.
The tester only indicates the phase if the
uninsulated male terminal is touched with a finger
or the hand, with the terminal acting as an
accessible electrode (contact resistance < 10 M Ω ).
If the user's insulation in relation to earth is high,
connect this terminal to a functional earth.
If the two LEDs of the 2P + E adapter are lit, there
are two possibilities:
- absence of an earth
- or presence of two-phase (with or without earth).
In this case, place your finger on the uninsulated
male terminal and check whether the "PH" LED is
lit on the C.A 7xx tester.
Reverse the connection of the «adapter/tester»
assembly by 180°, place your finger on the
uninsulated male terminal and check whether the
"PH" LED is lit on the C.A 7xx tester.
- If the "PH" LED of the tester only lights up in one
of these two cases, there is an earth fault on the
socket tested and the phase is on the "+" terminal
side of the tester during lighting of this LED.
- If, in the two cases described above, the "PH" LED
on the tester lights up, it means that the socket
has a two-phase supply.
If the tester indicates a voltage ≥ ≥ ≥ ≥ ≥ 127 V and
no neons are lit, repair the adapter.
