1. Area of applicability
These safety instructions apply to the microwave sensors VEGAPULS PS6*.CX***H*** acc. to the EC
type approval certificate no. PTB 03 ATEX 2060 X (certification number on the label).
2. General
The level measuring instrument on microwave basis VEGAPULS PS6*.CX***H***are used for the
detection of the distance between product surface and sensor by means of high frequency microwave
pulses in the GHz range.
The electronics uses the running time of the signals reflected from the product surface to calculate the
distance to the product surface.
The products to be measured may also be combustible liquids, gases or vapours.
The microwave sensors VEGAPULS PS6*.CX***H*** are suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres
of all combustible materials of explosion group IIA, IIB and IIC for applications requiring instruments of
category 1 G, 1/2G or 2.
If the microwave sensors VEGAPULS PS6*.CX***H*** are installed and operated in hazardous
areas, the general Ex mounting instructions and these safety instructions have to be observed.
If the microwave sensors are installed and operated in hazardous areas, the general Ex installation
regulations and these safety instructions must be observed.
The installation of Ex systems must always be carried out by trained personnel.
Category 1 G instruments
The microwave sensors are installed in hazardous areas of category 1 G.
Category 1/2 G instruments
The electronics housing is installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments of category 2 G. The
process connection elements are installed in the separating wall which separates areas requiring
instruments of category 2 G or 1 G. The antennas with the mechanical mounting elements are
installed in hazardous areas of category 1 G.
Category 2 G instruments
The microwave sensors are installed in hazardous areas of category 2 G.
