7.3.5.1 Commissioning with constant current

Puesta en servicio con corriente constante

Lomain™ cells stored up to 6 months:
A commissioning charge is normally not required and the cells are
ready for service. If full performance is necessary immediately, a
commissioning charge of 10 hours at 0.1 I
procedure is carried out without any red low-pressure vents.
During the charge the temperature should be checked (see point 7.5).
Lomain™ cells stored more than 6 months and up to 1 year:
A commissioning charge of 15 hours at 0.1 I
procedure is carried out without any red low-pressure vents.
During the charge the temperature should
be checked (see point 7.5).
vicio de 10 horas a 0,1 I

7.3.5.2 Commissioning with constant voltage

Puesta en servicio con tensión constante
If the charger´s maximum voltage setting is too low to supply con-
stant current charging, divide the battery into two parts and charge
them individually.
Lomain™ cells stored up to 6 months:
A commissioning charge is normally not required and the cells are
ready for service. If full performance is necessary immediately, a
commissioning charge of 20 hours at 1.65 V/cell with current limited
to 0.1 I
A is recommended. This procedure is carried out without any
t
red low-pressure vents.
During the charge the temperature should be checked (see point 5).
Lomain™ cells stored more than 6 months and up to 1 year:
A commissioning charge of 30 hours at 1.65 V/cell with current lim-
ited to 0.1 I
A is necessary. This procedure is carried out without any
t
red low-pressure vents.
During the charge the temperature should be checked (see point 7.5).
In case of variable charging conditions, please consult your GAZ
representative.

7.4 Charging in Operation

Do not open or remove the low pressure vent caps during operation.
The charging current limit should be 0.1 I
For standby application it is normally not necessary to compensate
the charging voltage with the temperature. In order to reduce the
water consumption it is recommended to compensate it at elevated
temperature as for example from + 35 °C on by use of the negative
temperature coefficient of – 3 mV/K.
For operation at low temperatures, i.e. below 0 °C, there is a risk of
poor charging and it is recommended to adjust the charging voltage
or to compensate the charging with the temperature (+ 3 mV/K, start-
ing from an ambient temperature of + 20 °C).
Recommended charging voltages for ambient temperatures from
+ 20 °C to + 35 °C are:
t
A.
empezando desde una temperatura ambiente de + 20 °C).
t
+ 20 °C a + 35 °C:

7.4.1 two step charge

Float charge:
Boost charge:
Carga de flotación: 1,40 – 1,42 V/elemento
Carga profunda:

7.4.2 Single step charge

1.42 – 1.44 V/cell

7.5 Periodic Maintenance

GAZ
Lomain™ are extreme low maintenance batteries and require
®
a minimum of maintenance. The following is recommended:
The battery must be kept clean using only water. Do not use a
wire brush or solvents of any kind.
Visually check the electrolyte level. Refilling is recommended
when the filling level reaches the "MIN" mark. However it must
never drop below the "WARNING LEVEL" mark. Use only distilled
®
or deionized water to top-up the cells in accordance with IEC
60993. Experience will tell the time interval between topping-ups.
NOtE: Once the battery has been filled with the correct electrolyte
at the factory, there is no need to regulary check the electrolyte
density. Interpretation of density measurements is difficult and
could lead to misunderstandings.
Check regularly (approximately every 24 months) that all con-
nectors, nuts and screws are correctly torqued. All metal parts
of the battery should be corrosion-protected by a thin layer
coating of anti-corrosion grease. Do not coat any plastic part of
A.
t
the battery, for example cell cases!
Check the charging voltage every 12 months. If a battery is
parallel connected, it is important that the recommended charg-
ing voltage remains unchanged. If a single-cell voltage of below
1.35 V is detected during float charging, it is recommend to
charge the cell(s) separately pursuant to section 7.3.5.1 Com-
missioning with constant current.
The charging current in the strings should also be checked to en-
sure equality. These checks have to be carried out every 12 months.
High water consumption of the battery is usually caused by
improper voltage setting of the charger.
