Before Operating Your
Curing Your Smoker
PREPARATION FOR USE
Prior to your first use of the smoker, follow the in struc tions below carefully to cure
your smoker. Curing your smoker will minimize damage to the exterior finish as

well as rid the smoker of paint odor that can impart unnatural flavors to the first
meal prepared on your smoker.
IMPORTANT: To protect your smoker from excessive rust, the unit must be

properly cured and covered at all times when not in use.
Remove the hood and center section before lighting the charcoal. We
recommend the use of charcoal briquettes for your smoker. Lump charcoal or
pre-treated charcoal are not recommended.
Never use charcoal impregnated with charcoal lighter fluid. Failure
to follow this warning may result in injury, or fire, causing damage
to property.
Make sure that the charcoal grate is properly placed in the charcoal pan.
Open the air vent on the base pan.
Fill the charcoal pan with approximately 10-12 lbs. of charcoal. Pile the charcoal
towards the center of the charcoal grate.
Open the air vent on the base pan.
Saturate charcoal with lighting fluid and follow the instructions on the lighting
fluid container. Store charcoal lighting fluid safely away from the smoker.
NOTE: If you choose to use charcoal lighting fluid, ONLY use charcoal
lighting fluid approved for lighting charcoal. Do not use gasoline,
kerosene, alcohol or any other flammable material for lighting
charcoal. Follow all manufacture's warnings and instructions
regarding the use of their product.
Use a long-neck lighter or matches to light charcoal.
The charcoal is ready when grey ash is beginning to form on the top of coals.
Spread the coals evenly over the charcoal grate with a pair of tongs or a long
handled metal tool.
