4.3. GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REPAIRING THE EQUIPMENT.
When the appliance has been working for some time the adjustments of both the arc striking voltage and
the 380V and 200V may no longer be correct, the reason for this possibly being loss of revolutions of the
internal combustion motor, accelerator rod bent due to knocks, etc. To adjust it correctly, it is sufficient to
have a 1100 – 250 V voltmeter (AC) at least.
It is possible that the machine may not strike the arc due to other reasons: see defects on following pages.
HOW TO MAKE ADJUSTMENT (See Figure 2).
With the machine hot and the voltmeter placed in the 200 V base, idling (welding without load), it must not
give more than 160 V. If it gives less voltage:
Place control (2) of figure 1 in welding position and set control (1) to minimum position. The motor can be
accelerated or decelerated by acting upon nuts (6) of figure 2. The 160 volts necessary for the arc striking to
be correct must be sought in this way. Using greater voltages, even though the arc striking is correct, prevents
correct welding with 1.5 or 2 mm electrodes.
If the rod is bent, it is better to straighten it.
Nuts (5), which are reached by removing the casing, are used to adjust the equipment as a generator:
220-380 V. It is not usually necessary to change the factory-set adjustments.
Screws (8) avoid rotation due to oscillations of control (1); if the wheel turns with too much play, it is advisable
to tighten them slightly.
In chapter 5 you will find a series of standard anomalies together with their possible causes and
solutions. Consult this table of incidents when carrying out a repair.
SPECIALIZED PERSONNEL MUST CARRY OUT ANY WORK ON THE EQUIPMENT.
BOTH AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF A REPAIR CHECK THE EQUIPMENT INSULATION LEVELS
The insulation-measuring device will have 500 V DC and will be applied to the following points of the
circuit:
- Supply-Earth: Ra > 50 Mohms.
- Welding-Earth: Ra > 50 Mohms.
- Supply-Welding: Ra > 50 Mohms.
BOTH AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF A REPAIR, BLOW THE INSIDE OF THE EQUIPMENT WITH
MOTO GAR
