2.1. Chemical / biological safety
When using the instrument, it may be necessary to handle hazard-
ous chemicals or biologically harmful samples. Please adhere to the
following guidelines when using the instrument:
• Please read all information concerning hazards and safety mea-
sures in the material safety data sheets and on the packages of
the solutions you work with.
• All used up solutions need to be disposed of in agreement with
national rules and regulations.
• The type of safety equipment needs to be in line with the concen-
tration and hazard potential of the given substance used.
2.2. Mechanical safety
If the housing is damaged, you need to send the instrument in for
repairs. Instrument functions and results cannot be guaranteed any-
more.
In case the USB cable is damaged while the power is supplied via
USB, you need to stop using the cable and exchange it immediately.
2.3. Inappropriate use
The PF-3 is only meant to be used as a photometric analysis device
for MACHEREY-NAGEL test kits. In case of inappropriate use by
untrained staff, MACHEREY-NAGEL declines any warranty claim.
3. Set-up
3.1. Package content
Open the package carefully. If parts are missing or damaged,
please contact your distributor or our technical service (see 12.5,
page 28 ).
Depending on the Version, the instrument may come in a cardboard
box or case. The case may contain reagents.
3.2. Instrument environment / set-up
Only set-up the instrument at a suitable location. The operation tem-
perature ranges from 5–50 °C, humidity can be up to 90 %. Protect
the instrument from direct sunlight and strong temperature devia-
tions.
3.3. Interface / power supply
The instrument features a USB port for power supply and data ex-
port. The interface is beneath the battery compartment cover at the
back of the instrument and can be opened with a screw driver.
