Self-Assessment with the Traffic Light Scheme
The so-called «traffic light scheme» allows assessment of
measured values and the course of your illness. CAUTION:
Setting area limits and modifying your treatment program (color
zone indication) for your peak flow measurement should only be
done with direction from your physician (or other licensed health
care practitioner). If your physician wants to make use of this
scheme, a traffic light card is enclosed with the device, on
which a green, a yellow, and a red area are marked. The area
limits should best be determined together with your physician
and entered into the card.
Determining the Area Limits
(Discuss with your physician before proceeding.)
1.
Measure your personal best value using the Microlife
Peak Flow Meter. This is the highest value you achieve
under optimum conditions (free of symptoms, feeling
well). [Example: A PEF reading of 500 l/min.]. Enter this
value under «MAX» into the green field on the card.
2.
The green area usually reaches up to 80% of the MAX
value. Multiply the MAX value by 0.8 and enter the result
into the border field between the green and yellow areas
[Example: 500 l/min x 0.8 = 400 l/min].
3.
The yellow area usually reaches up to 50% of the MAX
value. Multiply the MAX value by 0.5 and enter the result
