PETROL CHAIN SAW FOR TREE SERVICE USER MANUAL
Fig 13 shows how to latch on the chain saw
to the operator's sling.
6) By latching the chain saw onto the sling, the
occurrence of damages to the chain saw when
moving on the tree is reduced.
Always switch the engine off be-
fore latching the chain saw to the
sling.
7) Latch the chain saw onto the sling by using
the hooks provided on the sling, such as on the
sides; when climbing the tree, it is advisable to
latch it onto the rear middle hook to be less cum-
bersome for the operator (see fig.14).
8) To move the chain saw from one hook to an-
other, check that it is firmly latched onto the new
position before unlatching it from the previous
position.
8.4 USING THE CHAIN SAW ON A TREE
When the accidents caused by using this type
of chain saw on trees are analysed, the causes
are identified with working with one hand only;
this technique increases the risks and injuries
caused by:
- incorrectly held chain saw in the event of a kick-
back;
- inadequate control of the chain saw, which may
come into contact with the ropes and with the
operator's body (left hand and arm);
- loss of chain saw control caused by an unsafe
working position and the ensuing contact with
the chain saw (unforeseen movement when
using the chain saw).
8.5 ENSURE A SAFE WORKING POSITION BY
OPERATING THE CHAIN SAW WITH 2 HANDS
In order to hold the chain saw with both hands,
as a general rule, the operator must try to find a
safe position to use the chain saw:
- at hip level for horizontal cuts;
- at chest level for vertical cuts.
- To carry out work to the tree trunk and with low
side thrusts, the operator must stand in a stable
position in order to work in a safe position.
If the operator needs to move away from the
tree trunk and therefore requires a supporting
point, being suspended by means of ropes be-
tween a safe top anchoring point and the sling
may prove to be a good working position (see
fig.15).
Fig. 16 shows an example of a temporary
foot strap.
8.6 STARTING THE CHAIN SAW ON A TREE
To start the chain saw on a tree, the operator
must:
IF THE ENGINE IS COLD
- Ask the operator on the ground to start and
warm up the engine.
- apply the chain brake (fig. 30);
FOR THE OPERATOR STANDING ON THE
TREE:
As the engine is pre-heated, rise the "I" lever
(Fig.31 part.1).
HOLD THE CHAIN SAW IN ONE OF THE 2
WAYS SPECIFIED BELOW:
FIRST OPTION – Tightly hold the front handle
with your left hand, keeping the chain saw away
from your body and pull the starting cord with
your right hand.
SECOND OPTION – Tightly hold one of the two
handles with your right hand, keeping the chain
saw away from your body and pull the starting
cord with your left hand.
Before suspending the chain saw
on the rope (with engine on), al-
ways apply the chain brake (fig.30).
