4.
Checkthe cutting height. Adjust to the desired height.
Refer to the section entitled 'Cutting Height Adjustment'.
Checkthe engine oil:
• Make sure the mower is on a level surface.
• Cleanthe oil fill area of any debris.
• Remove the dipstick (A, Figure 5) and wipe with a
clean cloth.
• insert and tighten the dipstick.

be at the top of the full indicator (B) on the dipstick.
• If low, add oil (Briggs & Stratton warranty-certified
SAE30 lawnmower oil is recommended) slowly into the
engine oil fill. Do not overfill. After adding oil, wait one
minute and recheckthe oil level.
• Replace and tighten the dipstick.

• Make sure the mower is outside, where fumes can
safely dissipate.
• Removethe fuel fill cap (C, Figure 5).
• Fill the tank with fuel. Refer to the section entitled 'Fuel
Recommendations'.To allow for expansion of the fuel,
do not fill above the bottom of the filler neck (B).
• Reinstall the fuel fill cap.
6. Cleanthe exterior surfaces of the cutting deck and

Fuel Recommendations
Fuel mustmeet these requirements:
• Clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with
• A minimum of 87 octane / 87AKI (90 RON).
• Gasolinewith up to 10% ethanol (gasahol) or up to 15%
MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) is acceptable.
• CAUTION:DO NOT use unapproved gasoline, such as E85.
Do not mix oil in gasoline or modify the engine to run on
alternative fuels. This wiii damage the engine components
and void the engine warranty.
The engine on this equipment is certified to operate on
gasoline. The emissions control system for this engine is EM
(Engine Modifications).
High Altitude
At altitudes over 5,000 feet (1524 meters), a minimum 85
octane/85 AKi (89 RON) gasoline is acceptable. To remain
emissions compliant, high altitude adjustment is required.
Operation without this adjustment will cause decreased
performance, increasedfuel consumption, and increased
emissions.
Operation of the engine at altitudes below 2,500 feet (762
meters) with the high altitude kit is not recommended.
