Step 7

Fitting the nasal cannula

1 Insert the two short nozzles into the nasal passages.
2 Lead the hoses over the ears.
3 Adjust the sleeve until the nasal cannula fits securely.
4 Connect the end of the hose to the humidifier.
Check that all hoses have been connected correctly.
Ensure that the hoses are not kinked, otherwise oxygen
cannot flow through.
Ensure that the nozzles are correctly positioned in the
nasal passages during therapy. The required medical
effect cannot be achieved if the nozzles slip out of place.
Step 8
Operation
The flow of oxygen is indicated on the flowmeter. Oxygen
tangibly flows from the nozzles and bubbles can be seen in the
water in the humidifier bottle.
Duration of therapy must be maintained as directed by
the doctor, otherwise the required medical effect cannot
be achieved.
The control knob for setting the oxygen flow should not
be turned frequently from one end to the other, otherwise
it may be damaged.
Let the unit run for at least 15 minutes. The unit may be
damaged if operated for shorter periods of time.
Step 9

Shut-down

5 Press the ON/OFF button completely and then release it.
6 The green lamp goes out.
No smoking, no naked lights, e.g. burning matches,
candles, open fires. Wait at least 15 minutes after using
the unit to avoid all risk of fire.
If the humidifier unit is not needed again on the same day:
Drain and dry the humidifier bottle to avoid infection, see
also "Care", page 23.
