Functional Description

The unit enriches the oxygen concentration of the ambient air
from approx. 21 vol.% to max. 96 vol.%. This enrichment is
based on the adsorption effect of molecular sieves.
The ambient air is drawn in and compressed by a compressor
and then forced through a molecular sieve which adsorbs
(retains) the nitrogen contained in the ambient air (approx.
79 vol.%) and delivers the remaining oxygen. The unit switches
over to a second sieve before the first molecular sieve is
saturated with nitrogen. The first sieve is regenerated while the
second sieve takes over the job of oxygen enrichment. This
process is repeated in cycles. A slight hissing sound is heard
when the unit switches over from one sieve to the other.
Alternate regeneration of the two molecular sieves permits
continuous oxygen enrichment.
