DISCHARGE PIPING

Use a concentric taper on the discharge side to increase discharge
pipe diameters. All valving and additional fittings should be the
same size as the discharges connection. The discharge size should
be adequate to maintain appropriate velocities and reduce
friction losses.
SUCTION & DISCHARGE PIPE FLANGES
All piping is to be supported, braced, and lined up square before
connection to the pump. A flexible fitting is recommended on
both suction and discharge to eliminate any piping strains being
transmitted to the pump.
NOTICE: Flexible pipe couplings must be restrained so as not
to transmit any strain to the pump flanges when
expanding or contracting under pressure. Unrestrained
expansion fittings can transmit enormous forces to the
pump flanges.
ROTATION
Before the pump is started, correct rotation must be confirmed.
If the rotation is not correct then interchange any two of the
leads on a three-phase driver. For a single-phase driver refer
to the wiring diagram.
OPERATION
Pre-Start
1. Verify that rotation is correct and that the shaft
rotates freely.
2. Check all piping connections for tightness.
3. Inspect all accessories and make sure they are
appropriate for your installation.
4. Verify that the driver and coupling are aligned
correctly and that all guards are in place.
5. Ensure that all bearings and grease seals
are lubricated.
6. Follow the instruction on all tags, labels, and decals
attached to the equipment.
Do not operate the pump without guards in place

over the rotating parts. Exposed rotating parts can
catch clothing, fingers or tools causing severe injury
to personnel.
Close-Coupled Models
Units may be installed horizontally, inclined or vertically with
the motor above the pump. The motor feet MUST be bolted
to a substantial surface (horizontal or vertical) that is capable
of complete and rigid support for the pump and motor. For
vertical operation, the motor should be fitted with a drip cover or
otherwise protected against liquid entering the motor (rain, spray,
condensation, etc.).
NOTICE:
DO NOT INSTALL WITH MOTOR BELOW
PUMP. ANY LEAKAGE OR CONDENSATION
WILL AFFECT THE MOTOR.
Bearing Frame Models
• A flat substantial foundation surface MUST be provided
to avoid distortion and/or strain when tightening the
foundation bolts. A rubber mounting is acceptable to
reduce noise or excessive vibration.
• Tighten motor hold-down bolts BEFORE connecting
piping to pump
• It is recommended that the base plate be grounded
to a foundation with solid footing. Refer to FIGURE 1.
• Place unit in position on wedges located at four
points, two below approximate center of driver
and two below approximate center of pump. Adjust
wedges to level unit. Level or plumb suction and
discharge connections.
• Make sure bedplate is not distorted and final
coupling alignment can be made within the limits
of movement of motor and by shimming,
if necessary.
• Tighten foundation bolts finger tight and build dam
around foundation. Pour grout under bedplate
making sure the areas under the pump and motor
feet are filled solid. Allow grout to harden 48 hours
before fully tightening foundation bolts.
