Electrical safety
▶ Before beginning the work, check the working area for concealed electric cables or gas and water pipes.
External metal parts of the power tool may become live, presenting a risk of electric shock, if the blade
inadvertently cuts into a live electric cable.
▶ Hold the power tool by the insulated gripping surfaces when performing work in which the accessory
tool might come into contact with concealed wiring. If the accessory tool comes into contact with a live
wire, metal parts of the power tool can also become live, presenting a risk of electric shock.
Careful handling and use of electric tools
▶ Always use only saw blades of the specified dimensions and with an arbor hole of the correct size.
▶ Do not use dull/blunt or damaged blades. These cause increased friction and present a high risk of the
saw blade binding or kicking back.
▶ Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts.
▶ Observe the manufacturer's instructions regarding the handling and storage of saw blades.

2.3 Additional safety instructions for circular saws

▶ Bring the circular saw into contact with the workpiece only when switched on.
◁ The cutting line must be free of obstructions above and below the workpiece. Do not saw into screws,
nails or similar objects.
▶ Never work overhead with a circular saw.
▶ Never attempt to brake the saw blade by applying lateral pressure.
▶ Avoid overheating the tips of the saw blade teeth.

2.4 Safety instructions for circular saws with a riving knife

▶ Use a saw blade that matches the riving knife. For the riving knife to be effective, the steel disc of the
saw blade must be thinner than the riving knife and the saw blade teeth must be thicker than the riving
knife.
▶ Adjust the riving knife as described in these operating instructions. Incorrect spacing, positioning and
alignment can make the riving knife ineffective in preventing kickback.
◁ Always use the riving knife except when plunge cutting. The riving knife must be refitted after plunge
cutting. The riving knife interferes with plunge cutting and can cause kickback.
◁ The riving knife is effective only when it is in the kerf in the workpiece. The riving knife has no effect
when making very short cuts and cannot help prevent kickback in this situation.
▶ Do not operate the saw if the riving knife is bent. Even slight interference can cause the guard to close
more slowly.

2.5 Safety instructions for circular saws with pivoting guard

▶ Check the lower guard for proper closure before each use. Do not operate the saw if the lower guard
does not move freely and close immediately.
▶ Never clamp or tie the lower guard in the open position.
▶ Retract the lower guard manually only when making special cuts such as plunge cuts and compound
cuts. Use the retracting lever to raise the lower guard. Release the lever again as soon as blade begins
to cut into the workpiece.
◁ For all other types of sawing work the lower guard should operate automatically.
▶ Check that the lower guard spring operates correctly. If the guard and spring do not operate correctly,
have the saw serviced before use.
▶ Do not lay the saw down on the workbench or on the floor unless the lower guard has closed and
is covering the blade. An unprotected, rotating (coasting) blade will cause the saw to be propelled
backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware that it takes some time for the blade to stop rotating
after the switch is released.
▶ The lower guard may be bent if the saw accidentally falls to the floor. Use the retracting lever to raise the
guard and make sure that it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part of the saw at all
cutting angles and depths of cut.
