Hauling in the chain
Ensure that the clutch-nut (C) is engaged by turning it to the
right.
Replace the chain in the gipsy, when this has been taken out
while making anchorage, and disengage the chain from the
chainstopper (K). Remove the handle (H).
To haul in the chain, switch on the electric motor by means of
a foot switch or by means of a manually controlled switch.
Pay attention to the fact that the drum will rotate along.
When hauling in the chain, slowly sail to the place where the
anchor is lying; overload of the anchor windlass-electric motor
is thus avoided.
Immediately switch off the electric motor when there is an over-
load after all which causes the electric motor to stop running.
Warping
Ensure that the chain is engaged in the chainstopper (K).
To uncouple the gipsy from the main shaft by turning the clutch-
nut (C) 1/2 revolution to the left. Remove the handle (H).
The drum can now be operated by means of the electric
motor.
N.B. Not all models of the Napoleon anchor windlass have a
gipsy.

Maintenance
The gearwheel transmission of the anchor windlass is 'lubri-
cated for life'.
The following maintenance checks must be carried out at least
once a year:
- Disengage the clutch-nut, grease the screwthread of the
shaft end and again engage the clutch-nut.
Lubricant to be applied: multipurpose Lithium grease no. 2
(Outboard gear grease).
- For battery maintenance the instructions of the battery
manufacturer need to be consulted carefully. Vetus batteries
are maintenance free.
When sailing on sea-water it is recommended to rinse the an-
chor windlass regularly with fresh water.
