Installation
For principal dimensions, see drawing page 28.
In general
The reliability of the anchor windlass is entirely dependent on
the quality of the installation. Nearly all defects that emerge
are caused by faults or inaccuracies during installation. It is
therefore, of the utmost importance to follow all mentioned
items in this manual carefully!
Chain locker
Make sure that the chain locker is big enough. Guideline for
determining the chain locker dimensions:
8 mm chain
: 5 dm
by 10 m chain
10 mm chain
: 8 dm
by 10 m chain
Engage the end of the chain in the chain locker.
Installation
Place the windlass in such a way
that rotation of the gipsy (G) is as
indicated in the drawing when the
anchor is hauled in.
The gipsy should be
in line with the hawse
pipe or the bow roller.
The anchor should pref-
erably be positioned
above
the
deepest
point of the chain lock-
er. The chain has the
tendency to heap itself
up in a pyramid shape.
Make the chain locker
as deep as possible to
prevent this problem.
Make sure there is a
free space (A) of at least 0 cm between the underside of the
deck and the top of the piled up chain.
Polished stainless steel chain has fewer problems with becom-
ing piled up in the chain locker because it is smooth.
The chain should run out horizontally (max. 5˚) to the hawse
pipe or the bow roller. Please note that the spanned bow of the
chain on the gipsy should at least be 90˚; this also goes for the
hinged bow roller.
You might position the anchor windlass higher up, by means of
a filler plate made of wood so as to comply to the demands.
A possible circle on
deck should also be
justified by means of
a filler plate made of
wood.

Mark the positions of the
holes by means of a drill
pattern:
- the fixing holes of the
anchor windlass
- the hole for chain to
chain locker
Make sure that the front
of the hole through which
the anchor chain passes
is bevelled at an angle of
45˚.
Loosen the nuts from the
threaded studs to sepa-
rate the top of the anchor
windlass from the gearbox
and the anchor windlass
motor.
Fit the gasket between the
deck and the top part of
the anchor windlass.
There are two key holes in the
flange of the gearbox for use as
aids during the assembly.
Fit the washers and nuts to the 2
threaded studs.
Position the flange of the gearbox
over the threaded studs.
Turn the flange so that the gearbox
and motor remain hanging in posi-
tion.
Fit the anchor windlass with the
washers and nuts.
It is recommended to grease
the studs with e.g. Loctite
Seize or Molykote

1000.
After using the anchor windlass
check whether the nuts need any
further tightening.
Do not drill holes in the windlass housing to mount e.g. a
switch/receptacle.
