SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS - Rescue-Positioning Device (RPD)
Carefully read all instructions including the General Instructions for Use and
Maintenance (GIUM) 5902392, before using the RPD.
1.0 PURPOSE
This Rescue-Positioning Device (RPD) is a component of a rescue-positioning system.
This equipment is used to raise or lower personnel over a vertical distance. When
using this equipment for positioning personnel, we recommend that a secondary or
back-up fall protection system be used. The system is available with 3:1 or 4:1 lifting
ratios. (See Section 11.0 Performance).
NOTE: The back-up or secondary fall protection system is not required in
applications where the RPD is only used for rescue operations.

COMPONENTS: Figure 1 illustrates key components of the RPD. The Swivel Eye (A),
Face Label (B), Indicator Flag (C), Housing (D), Override Ferrule (E), Rope (Device
Lifeline) (F), Duplex Ferrule (G), Travelling Pulley (H), Shackle (I), Storage Bag (J),
Carabiners (K), Rescue Sling (L), Anchorage Strap (M).
IMPORTANT: Before using this equipment, record the product identifi cation
information from the ID label into the Equipment Identifi cation Sheet at the end of
this manual.

1.1 APPLICATIONS
A. POSITIONING: In this application, the RPD is used as part of a complete
positioning and personnel riding system. Such systems typically include a full
body harness, personnel riding or rescue device, independent personal fall
protection system and the RPD. Figure 2 shows the operator raising or lowering
himself.
B. RESCUE: In this application, the RPD is used as part of a complete rescue
system. Such systems typically include a full body harness or rescue sling,
anchorage connector (i.e. carabiner, etc.) and the RPD. Figure 3 shows a co-
worker raising and/or lowering a person.
2.0 REQUIREMENTS
Installation and use of this equipment is restricted by the following limitations:
CAPACITY: One person. In emergency or life threatening situations, the
capacity is 227 kg.
DESCENT HEIGHT: See ID Label for length.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL HAZARDS: Contact Capital Safety if you
have questions about using this equipment where environmental or physical
hazards exist.
CORROSION: Do not leave this equipment for long periods in environments
where corrosion of metal parts could take place. Some examples of corrosive
conditions are listed below:
Exposure to vapors from organic materials
