speed brake. The unit should lock up. If the brake fails to engage,
immediately remove the unit from service. See Figure 13.
Step 7. Device labels must be present, attached, and fully legible.
Step 8. Operate the system in both directions. Keep moderate tension between
the swivel eye and the shackle.
a. The indicator fl ag should cycle between the locking/positioning
mode (silver) and the lowering mode (orange) as the system is
raising a load.
Step 9. Inspect each system component and subsystem (full body harness,
anchorage connector, etc.) according to manufacturer's instructions.
Step 10. Record inspection results in Periodic Examination and Repair History
Log on the last page of the GIUM.
Step 11. If inspection or operation reveals a defective condition, remove the
RPD from service immediately and contact an authorized service
center for repair.

8.0 PRODUCT LIFE
As long as the RPD passes inspection by a competent person 1 , it may remain in
service. See also Section 10.0 and GIUM 1.16.
9.0 MAINTENANCE/STORAGE/TRANSPORT
See GIUM 3.
MAINTENANCE: Periodically clean the RPD with a water and mild detergent
solution. Position the device so no water gets inside the housing. Clean labels.
See GIUM 3.2. Do not lubricate any parts.
WARNING: If the rope comes in contact with liquid or solid acids, remove it from
service and wash it with a water and mild detergent solution. Do not return the
system to service without inspection by a qualifi ed inspector. Acids in contact with
rope for extended periods of time can weaken the rope without visible evidence of
damage. Only a qualifi ed inspector can determine rope status.
STORAGE: See GIUM 3.3. Avoid areas where chemical vapors are present.
Thoroughly inspect the device after extended storage. Clean and store body
support and associated system components according to instructions provided
with that equipment.
TRANSPORT: See GIUM 3.4.
10.0 SERVICING
Maintenance and servicing must be completed by an authorized service center. An
authorization and return number must be issued by Capital Safety. Do not attempt to
disassemble the device. The RPD is required to be serviced at least every two years
by an authorized service center. Extreme working conditions may require increasing
the service frequency. Contact Capital Safety for service frequencies when this
equipment is used in extreme working conditions. Service shall include an intensive
