• Exposure to sewage or fertilizer (high concentration of ammonia is very
corrosive)
• Exposure to sea water.
See GIUM 4.3.
• CHEMICAL HAZARDS: Solutions containing acids, alkali or other caustic
chemicals, particularly at elevated temperatures, may damage RPD's.
Frequently inspect the RPD.
• HEAT: In general, RPD equipment is not intended for use in environments
where incendiary sparking could cause an explosion or fi re. Use of this
equipment is prohibited where there exists the possibility of the rope
coming into contact with power lines, live cables, etc. Do not use where air
temperatures exceed 145°C or where the rope may come into contact with
material that is above 120°C.
• COMPATIBLE COMPONENTS: See GIUM 1.8.
WARNING: See GIUM 1.12.
• COMPATIBILITY OF CONNECTORS AND MAKING CONNECTIONS:
Connectors (hooks, carabiners, D-rings) used to suspend the RPD must be
capable of supporting at least 2,268 kg (22kN) and meet EN362 standards. Use
self-locking snap hooks or self locking carabiners. Do not use non-locking snap
hooks. Connectors must be compatible in size, shape, and strength. See also
GIUM 5.
• ANCHORAGE STRENGTH: Anchorages used to suspend the RPD must sustain
static loads, applied along the axis of the device, of at least 11kN. When more
than one RPD is attached to an anchorage, the strengths stated above must be
multiplied by the number of descent devices.
WARNING: Use of this equipment for an application that does not meet the
preceding anchorage strength requirement(s) may result in serious injury or
death.
• USE WITH HORIZONTAL SYSTEMS: In applications where the RPD is used
in conjunction with a horizontal system (i.e. horizontal I-beams and trolleys),
systems must be compatible. Horizontal systems must be designed and installed
under the supervision of a qualifi ed person (engineer).
IMPORTANT: Refer to applicable standards governing this equipment for more
information on personal fall arrest or restraint systems and associated system
components.
3.0 TRAINING

4.0 PLANNING
BEFORE EACH USE: Carefully inspect equipment in according with Section 7.0 of
this manual. Your rescue and positioning system should be thoroughly planned prior
to installation to insure proper location and confi guration of the access and landing
areas. Careful consideration should be given to the following aspects:
• ANCHORAGE: Select a rigid anchorage point. See Section 2.0 for Anchorage
Strength and see GIUM 1.1 and 12.
