1.
Lower and remove spare tire from vehicle. The tire release is located inside rear cargo area in middle of floor.
2.
Lower exhaust system at the rubber isolator. Spraying a lubricant on the metal hanger rod and the rubber isolator helps removal.
3.
Remove the plastic rivets that fasten the fascia tabs to the vehicle. Note: Remove the center of the rivet with a flat screwdriver. Keep for re- installation. Both
sides.
4.
Two options to insert fasteners into the frame rails.
(A) Feed fasteners into frame rail through the access hole over spring shackle and into to the forward hole. Leave pull wires attached. Feed the fasteners into
the rearward holes using the same technique. Both sides.
(B) Enlarge the forward hole using a drill or rotary tool to accept the carriage bolt and spacer.
6.
Feed the remaining fastener (items 1 & 4) into holes at rear cross member of the vehicle. Leave pull wires attached.
7.
Raise hitch into position feeding the pull wires through the adjacent slots on the hitch. Feed conical washer over pull wire, using the washer to hold the bolt in
place remove the pull wires and attach the hex nut. Tighten to hold hitch in place, repeat until all fastener are attached.
8.
Reinstall spare tire on the cradle to confirm no interference with hitch.
9.
Torque all fasteners to specifications below.
10. Trim fascia attachments as needed. Note: trimming is on the underside of vehicle. Reinstall fascia attachments. (Both sides)
11. Raise exhaust back into position and reattach to rubber isolator.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent
entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a
vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
