2. The STANDBY mode is designed for setting the desired parameters
for RF power delivery. It is automatically initiated after completion of
a successful ESU self-test. STANDBY mode is indicated by a
flashing RF POWER CONTROL Button on the ESU front panel;
TEMPERATURE, TIME, and POWER Displays are continuously lit.
NOTE: The numeric displays will show only bars: "- - -" in STANDBY
3. Electrodes cannot be selected and the Power, Time and
Temperature setpoints cannot be adjusted without first attaching a
Probe. Depressing any front panel control button will have no effect
until a valid Probe is connected.
4. When the user attaches a Probe, the ESU determines the default
setpoints for POWER, TIME and TEMPERATURE for the Probe and
those values are displayed on the appropriate front panel displays.
5. Once a Probe is connected, the operator can select electrodes for RF
delivery, raise or lower the default Power Limit, Treatment Time or
Temperature as required.
ESU in RF DELIVER Mode
1. After the Probe settings have been configured, the user can press
the RF POWER CONTROL Button once to place the ESU in the RF
DELIVER Mode.
2. When the System is in RF DELIVER Mode, the POWER CONTROL
Indicator will remain lit continuously.
3. The POWER display shows (in watts) RF power delivered to the
Probe. The value may fluctuate slightly due to changes in tissue
contact.
4. The TEMPERATURE display shows (in °C) the maximum
temperature measured by any selected Probe electrode. The value
may be slightly lower than the actual maximum tissue temperature.
The TEMPERATURE Display will indicate "LO" if the measured
temperature is less than 15°C, "HI" if temperature is greater than
120°C. Otherwise, it displays the measured temperature.
5. The TIMER Display will indicate the amount of time remaining until
the unit automatically shuts down. The Timer will not actually start
counting until all of the selected electrodes have reached 50°C.
When loss of contact with tissue is detected at all Probe electrodes,
the TIMER Display stops for up to 10 seconds. If contact with tissue
is not restored within 10 seconds, the ESU returns to STANDBY,
emits the Error tone and RF delivery ceases.
6. During RF DELIVER Mode, the TEMPERATURE Display will indicate
the current temperature of each of the selected Probe electrodes.
7. RF DELIVER Mode will automatically terminate when the Timer
decrements to zero. The operator can manually terminate RF
when no probe is connected to the ESU.
