About the ESU Timer
The ESU has a built-in timer that controls the length of time that RF
energy is delivered to the Probe. When a probe if first connected, the
TIMER Display will display the default Time of the connected probe.
During STANDBY Mode, the operator can adjust the Treatment time by
using the buttons below the time display.
During RF Delivery, the Timer waits until all of the selected electrodes
have initially reached 50°C before it starts to decrement down. As it
counts down, the TIMER Display shows the remaining Time left for the
treatment. When the Timer reaches 0, the ESU discontinues RF energy
to the Probe and returns to the STANDBY state.
During RF DELIVER Mode, the Timer cannot be adjusted by the
operator.
During RF DELIVER Mode, the operator can manually stop RF energy by
pressing the RF POWER CONTROL button once.
Setting the Timer
The default value Timer setpoint for an Electrosurgical Probe connected
to the ESU can be adjusted by the operator only during STANDBY mode.
During RF DELIVER Mode, the ESU delivers RF Energy to the Probe for
the set time period and then returns to STANDBY Mode.
To change the Timer setpoint for the ESU, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that the ESU is in STANDBY mode.
2. Press the appropriate TIMER Button
the Timer setpoint by 1 second. The SET LED is illuminated to
indicate that the value in the TIMER Display is the Timer setpoint.
3. To scroll rapidly to the desired Timer setpoint, depress and hold the
appropriate TIMER Button down.
4. Release the TIMER Button
the appropriate Timer setpoint.
About Temperature Measurement and Control
Each electrode on the Probe has its own temperature sensors. During
RF delivery, the ESU monitors those sensors in order to regulate the
temperature of each active electrode and the tissue it contacts at the
desired temperature setpoint.
During initial heating, the electrodes are significantly below the setpoint
and the ESU heats each electrode until it is at the temperature setpoint.
The Timer does not start decrementing until all of the selected sensors
have initially reached 50°C. Once the sensors reach the set point
to increase or decrease
when the TIMER Display shows
