Residual risks or side effects:
Peristomal skin complications can occur while using Proxima®,
Proxima®+, Proxima® Border and Almarys® Optima.
Leakages through the filter can occur while using drainable
pouches.
1. Preparing the skin
Wash your hands before starting the procedure.
Gently clean the peristomal area with lukewarm water. Avoid
ether, alcohol or any other topical product which could interfere
with skin protector adhesion. Carefully dab dry the skin with soft
and non-shedding cloths.
2. Applying the pouch (closed and drainable pouches)
For drainable pouches, close the closure outlet:
Drainable pouches with adhesive clamp: start by removing
the release paper from the adhesive strip (be careful not to
place your fingers on the adhesive part). Centre and stick
the adhesive clamp at the bottom of the opening (on the
outer side of the pouch, not on the skin side). The width
between the clamp and the bottom of the outlet should be
equivalent to the width of the clamp (E). Fold the extremity
of the sleeve four times and the outlet backwards using the
clamp (F). Firmly squeeze the extremities of the clamp to
ensure complete closure (G).
Drainable pouches with rigid clamp (for Proxima+ references
only): Open the clamp by pressing on the latch. Place the
thin curved part of the clamp towards the plastic part of the
outlet (K), fold the film upwards then close the clamp (L-M).
If you prefer, use a rigid clamp (to be ordered separately: ref.
F00727).
Drainable "uro" pouches: Make sure the outlet is closed by
turning clockwise the tap (I).
Cut the central opening of the hydrocolloid adhesive to the size
of your stoma (A) possibly with the help of the stoma guide.
