OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
3. Installing/Remove the Cutter Bit
Selecting a Cutter Bit (available separately)
This router comes with a 1/4 in. collet that accepts
cutter bits with ¼-in. diameter shanks.
WARNING
• Do not use cutter bits that have a cutting
diameter larger than 1-3/8", because they will
not fit through the sub-base opening, could
cause damage to the sub-base and the motor,
and could cause serious personal injury to the
operator.
To install the cutter bit
a. Move the ON/OFF switch (A) to the "O"
position to turn the tool off. Remove the
battery.
b. Open the motor clamp (D) to remove the fixed
base (C)
c. Set the router upside down on its top cap, with
the collet pointing up.
d. Press the spindle-lock button (G) to lock the
spindle shaft.
e. Place the open-end wrench (Q) on the collet/
nut, turn the collet/nut counterclockwise with
the wrench, and loosen the collet so that it can
accept the cutter bit shank.
f.
Insert the cutter bit shank into the collet/nut so
that the cutting surfaces are approximately 1/8 in.
to 1/4 in. away from the face of the collet/nut.
g. With the spindle-lock button pressed in to engage the shaft, place the wrench on the collet/
nut and turn it clockwise until the collet is firmly tightened around the cutter bit.
NOTICE: The spindle lock may not return to the original position when you tighten the collet
nut at the installation of the router bit. Make sure that the spindle lock returns to the original
position when you start the tool.
WARNING
• Tighten the collet/nut securely to prevent the cutter bit from slipping. If the collet/nut is not
tightened securely, the cutter bit may detach during use, causing serious personal injury.
• Bits, sockets, and tools get hot during operation. Wear gloves when touching them.
NOTICE: To prevent damage to tool, do not tighten the collet without a cutter bit installed.
NOTICE: To ensure proper gripping of the cutter bit shank and minimize run-out, the shank of
the cutter bit must be inserted at least 5/8 in. (16 mm) into the collet.
NOTICE: ALWAYS remove cutter bits from the collet when the router is not being used.
