Application
When using lanyards (e.g., safety ropes) with a length of more than two metres, fall arresters
must be used. When used as intended, they are to prevent as much as possible snagging result-
ing from excessive rope length, thereby reducing the falling height.
The MAS S 11 and S 16 guided type fall arresters are used particularly for upward and down-
ward movements. The guided type fall arrester automatically moves on a moving guide made
from polyamide (rope diameter 11 or 16 mm, depending on the design) as the operator climbs or
descends. It is kept taut on the floor by fixing a weight or as a result of the dead weight.
This type of fall arrester is preferably used for climbing, as a part of personal protective equip-
ment against falls from a height, leaving both hands of the user free for his own safety or allowing
him to use one hand to carry lightweight materials or tools.
Personal protective equipment against falls from a height (PPE) may only be used for carrying
out short-time work.
These guided type fall arresters may only be used with suitable harnesses, tested according to
DIN - EN 361. The user's weight including tools and other materials must be considered.
Prior to and during using the equipment, consideration must be given on how to achieve a swift
and safe rescue.

Instructions for use
2.1. Instructions for vertical use:
MAS S 11 and S 16 guided type fall arresters are supplied ready-to-wear by the manufacturer,
i.e., at the end of the flexible anchor line a lock is provided to prevent the guided type fall arrester
from slipping off.
The guided type fall arrester automatically runs upwards on the taut moving guide. The fall ar-
resters come with sewn shock absorber which, in case of falling, reduces the shock to less than
600 kg (DIN - EN 353/2).
