Function of the collective run signal (SBM)
The desired function of the SBM can be set in
menu 5.5.1.0. In this case, it is possible to select
between "Ready" (switchgear is ready for opera -
tion) and "Run" (at least one pump is running).
Fieldbus connection
The switchgear is prepared for connection via
ModBus RTU as standard. The connection is
established via an RS485 interface (electrical
connection as per section 7.2.10).
The switchgear works as a Modbus slave. Basic
settings are to be made in menus 5.1.1.0 to
5.1.1.4.
Different parameters can be read and also
changed to some extent via the Modbus interface.
An overview of individual parameters and a
description of the data types used are shown in
the appendix.
Pipe filling
The pipe fill function can be activated
(menu 5.8.1.0) in order to avoid pressure peaks
when filling empty pipes or pipes under low pres -
sure, so that pipes can be filled as quickly as pos -
sible. In this case, it is possible to differentiate
between "slow" and "fast" modes (menu 5.8.2.0).
If the pipe fill function is activated, operation
takes place according to the table below following
a system restart (activation of mains voltage;
external on; drives on) for a time that can be
set in menu 5.8.3.0:

system
SC switchgears with frequency converter (FC):
If the base-load pump has a fault, it is switched off
and another pump is switched onto the frequency
converter. If the frequency converter has a fault,
the switchgear works like an SC switchgear with -
out frequency converter.

SC switchgears without frequency converter:
If the base-load pump has a fault, it is switched off
and one of the peak-load pumps is managed by
the control system as a base-load pump.
SCe switchgears:
If the base-load pump has a fault, it is switched off
and another pump takes over the control function.
A peak-load pump fault always leads to its deacti -
vation and to the cut-in of another peak-load
pump (possibly also the standby pump).

6.2.2 Motor protection

Excess temperature protection
Motors with an WSK (thermal winding contact)
signal an excess winding temperature to the con -
trol device by opening a bimetal strip contact.
The connection of the WSK is carried out accord -
ing to the circuit diagram.
Faults on motors that are equipped with a tem -
perature-dependent resistor (PTC) for excess
temperature protection can be detected using
optional evaluation relays.
Excess current protection
Direct-starting motors are protected by motor
protection switches with thermal and electro -
magnetic tripping devices. The trigger current
must be set directly on the motor protection
switch.
Motors with Y-∆ starting are protected by motor
protection relays. These are installed directly on
the motor protections. The trigger current must
be set and is 0.58 * IN with the Y-∆ starting of the
pumps used.
All motor protection devices protect the motor
during operation with the frequency converter or
in mains operation. Pump faults which reach the
switchgear result in deactivation of the corre -
sponding pump and activation of the SSM. After
the cause of the fault has been rectified, it is nec -
essary to acknowledge the fault.
The motor protection is also active in manual
mode and leads to deactivation of the corre -
sponding pump.
In the SCe version, the pump motors protect
themselves by mechanisms integrated in the fre -
quency converters. The error messages from the
frequency converters are handled in the switch -
gear as described above.
