General installation instruction

2. Product liability

According to the German Product Liability Act, which defines the liability of a manufacturer for its products, the
following information about lock systems must be strictly observed.
We as manufacturer will not accept liability for non-observance of this information.
2.1
The function of a lock is to keep a door shut, and to lock it. ‚Keeping shut' means preventing a door from being opened
by pulling or pushing while also allowing it to be easily opened, by operating a lever handle for example.
‚Locking' means securing a door once it has been pulled shut using an unsprung rigid bolt which is pushed out of the
door lock into the recesses provided in the keeper.
The latch is designed to keep the door shut.
The deadbolt is designed to keep the door locked.
The lock must be designed in such a way that the deadbolt can be blocked in the final position, and also that the door
cannot be opened without a suitable (un)locking mechanism.
The deadbolt is displaced by the drive-gear. The locking mechanism (blocking device with anchor) holds the lock in a
specific position. A door may only be locked if it is already closed (also applies for hook latches and radius bolts).
The SECURY 19, SECURY 21, and GU-SECURY Automatic Panic multi-point locks are designed for vertically installed
doors. Their main area of application is building entrance doors in both private and public buildings.
Compliance with the manufacturer's specifications, in particular the instructions in the supplied installation and
operating instructions, are a part of intended use. This is the only way to avoid damage.
Changes made to the multi-point lock without the approval of GU exclude the manufacturer's liability for resulting
damages.
The length of the cylinder fixing screws must be selected to match the backset dimension of the lock or cropped to
the appropriate length.
A mortise lock or multi-point lock is a lock which is inserted and screwed into an existing recess (lock recess) in the
door leaf, normally in a swing door system.
Use as intended can only be ensured if locks are combined with approved door hardware, locking mechanisms
(e.g. keys, cylinders), and accessories (e.g. striker/L&D striker), and if installation and maintenance is performed in
compliance with the instructions and applicable (DIN) regulations.
Locks for doors with special functions must comply with the applicable regulations and, if required, be marked
accordingly. In the case of panic locks or multi-point locks in escape and rescue routes, the handle must not be
operated whilst locking or unlocking. When used as panic exit devices, these locks are designed for infrequent
operation and only in emergencies. Normal deliberate locking (i.e. single or double turn via key operation) or
unlocking must not be replaced by continuous operation of the emergency function. The self-locking locks for series
19 and 21 and SECURY 19/21 are the exception to this.
Locking cylinders may only be installed in locks without reservation if they comply with a dimensional standard
(e.g. DIN 18252), and if the locks are explicitly designed for cylinders to this standard.
In all other cases, manufacturers, dealers, fabricators or consumers of such locks must ensure that the chosen
cylinders are suitable for installation and the intended use.
Any cylinder type (including knob cylinder) must not influence the correct function of the exit device in the escape
direction. The operator must ensure the lock functions as intended.
When checking knob cylinders, the only criterion they must satisfy is that they do not impede the correct locking
function in the escape direction.
Mandatory legal regulations must be observed. For example, only cylinders with knob, turn or similar handle may be
installed in panic locks in accordance with the certificate No. 0432-CPR-00029-01. All general terms and definitions,
unless explained in our catalogues or pictures, can be found in the DIN 18250, DIN 18251-1, DIN 18251-2,
DIN 18251-3, DIN 18252 standards for door locks, and in the standards for hardware. Deviations from the
standard must be specified in the order.
