KRATOS SAFETY cannot be held liable for any direct or indirect accident occurring following use other than that provided for in these instructions;
do not use this equipment beyond its limits!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND PRECAUTIONS:
The KRATOS SAFETY temporary webbing lifeline is a temporary and transportable anchorage device in accordance with EU Regulation 2016/425; it
must be assigned to a single user by name (but can be used jointly by 2 people). KRATOS SAFETY certifies that this anchorage device has been tested
in accordance with standards EN 795:2012 Type C and TS 16415:2013 Type C.
This lifeline was designed to protect the safety of users anywhere there is a risk of fall. It must not be used to lift equipment.
This equipment can be used jointly by two people.
User safety relies on the effectiveness of the equipment and full understanding of the safety instructions contained in this user guide. The legibility of
the product's markings must be checked regularly.
WARNINGS:
1/ Minimum breaking strength of the anchorage points these must be sized as follows: breaking strength = 2 times the impact generated during
the fall**.
Examples: According to the graph on page 4:
- if the lifeline is installed over 5 m and used by 2 people, the breaking strength of the anchorage points must be at least: 15kN;
- if the lifeline is installed over 20 m and used by 1 person, the breaking strength of the anchorage points must be at least: 10 kN.
In all cases, the anchors on which the lifeline is installed must comply with EN 795 and have a min. strength according to the calculation
explained above: see **.
2/ Clearance under the lifeline: this will be calculated as follows: lifeline deflection + clearance of the fall arrest system.
Examples: According to the graph on page 4:
- if the lifeline is installed over 5 m and used by 2 people, the lifeline deflection is 0.60 m + clearance of a 2 m absorber lanyard used at factor 0: 5 m
= 5.60 m clearance for the system;
- if the lifeline is installed over 20 m and used by 1 person, the lifeline deflection is 2.21 m + required clear distance under the feet of the user of a
retractable fall arrester FA 20 502 02 used at factor 0: 1.36 m = 3.57 m clearance for the system.
Installation: For safety reasons, it is essential to check the clearance on the work site before each use and during use, to be sure that there will
be no collision with the ground or an obstacle in the event of a fall.
When choosing a location for installation, check that the equipment is not likely to be damaged by: sharp edges, friction, heat sources, etc.
Never connect two lifelines to each other without an intermediate connection to a reliable anchorage point.
Case 1: There are anchorage points available (EN 795 Type A)
This is the preferable installation type, each time it is possible.
For connection, use steel connectors (EN362, R>25kN).
Connect the ends as explained above, taking care not to twist the straps. The lifeline should be positioned horizontally with a maximum 15° slope. To
tension: manually pull the dead end of the strap, tighten the strap inside the pawl, tension the strap by disengaging the tensioner's anti-reverse brake
to release the pawl handle, operate the pawl handle taking care to make a minimum of two turns so that the strap overlaps correctly. Following this
procedure, this corresponds with a pre-tension of about 1kN (about 100 kg).
Once tensioning is complete, reposition the anti-reverse brake; this operation locks the pawl handle.
Withdrawal:
To remove the lifeline, disengage the tensioner's anti-reverse brake to release the pawl handle. Pull the taut strand of the strap to tighten it. Disconnect
both ends. Store the strap properly in its designated bag.
For safety reasons, make sure that no obstacles are impeding the normal operation of the fall arrest system, connected to the anchorage point, before each
possible use. Ensure that the general set-up limits swinging in the event of a fall, and that the work is performed to limit the risk and the height of a fall.
This equipment must only be used by trained, competent and healthy persons or under the supervision of a trained and competent person. Warning!
Certain medical conditions may affect user safety, if in doubt please contact your doctor.
Be aware of the hazards that could reduce the performance of your equipment and, therefore, the safety of the user in the case of: exposure to extreme
temperatures (< -30°C or > 50°C); prolonged exposure to the elements (UV rays, humidity) or to chemical products; electrical constraints; the fall
protection system becoming twisted when in use; or sharp edges, friction, cuts, etc.
Before and during use, we recommend that you make the necessary arrangements for a safe rescue, should this be required.
Before each use, check the condition of the equipment by inspecting the end buckles, the straps (no cuts, burns, discolouration, shrinkage, etc.) along
their entire length; also check the presence of the strap's end stop (seam). Check that the pawl is not damaged and is working properly. Also check that
there are no traces of oxidation or deformation, cracks, wear, cutting edge in contact with the strap. The markings must remain legible.
If there is any doubt about the condition of the equipment, the lifeline should no longer be reused and/or should be returned to the manufacturer or a
competent technician, approved by the manufacturer. After a fall, the product should not be reused and should be marked "OUT OF SERVICE" (see
"INSPECTION" paragraph).
It is prohibited to use the device with structures with small diameters and corrosion as this can affect the performance of the device.
Do not remove, add or replace any component of the product.
IMPORTANT: Where there are no anchorage points available, the fork-
like ends of the lifeline can be used to insert a structure. In this type of
installation, the lifeline straps should not be installed on sharp edges and
should be adequately protected.
The connectors (EN362) used at the ends must be made of steel (R>25kN)
and must never be in contact with the structure (pure tension between the
2 straps).
Before use, make sure the pawl is in locked position.
