User manual
Intended use: The Cochlear Baha System uses bone conduction
to transmit sounds to the cochlea (inner ear) with the purpose
of enhancing hearing. The Baha Softband is intended to be used
as part of the Cochlear Baha System to function as retention and
coupling mechanism for the Baha Sound Processor.
Indications: The Baha System is indicated for patients with
conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss and single-sided
sensorineural deafness (SSD).
Clinical Benefit: Most recipients of a bone conduction hearing
solution will experience improved hearing performance and
quality of life compared to unaided listening.
The Baha Softband is for long-term use as well as for test
situations.
It is not made with natural rubber latex. It is fitted with one or two
connector disc(s) and a safety release which is designed to open if
the Baha Softband should catch on an object (Fig.1).
The Baha Softband is available in unilateral (Fig.1) and bilateral
(Fig.2) versions.
Getting started: If delivered with the Baha Softband, attach the
Soft pad(s) to the disc(s) (Fig.3) and adjust the length of the band
using the slider(s) (Fig.4). The bilateral version has two sliders: one
for adjusting the total length and one for adjusting the distance
between the discs (Fig.4).

The Baha Softband should be fitted firmly but comfortably (it
should be possible to insert one finger underneath the band).
1. Adjust the length of the Baha Softband
2. Attach the Baha sound processor(s) to the disc(s)
3. Place the Baha Softband on the wearer's head and adjust it
to fit comfortably. For best performance the disc(s) should be
placed flat behind the ear or at any other bony location of the
skull i.e. forehead (Fig.5).
4. Turn the sound processor on.
For the first few weeks the Baha Softband can be worn for shorter
periods of time until the wearer has become accustomed to it.
To help avoid any tenderness use the Soft pad(s) and, vary the
position of the disc on the wearer's head each day.
Washing instructions: The Baha Softband can be washed by
hand at 40 °C (104 °F) or cooler. Use a mild soap but avoid fabric
softeners. Do not tumble dry or iron. The disc(s) can be cleaned
with a small brush. Never use any strong chemical solutions.
Caution :
• Remove the sound processor(s) and the Soft pad(s) before
washing or cleaning.
• Children should not be left unattended and should always have
adult supervision when wearing the Baha Softband.
• If the wearer has an implant, do not place the Baha Softband
directly over the implant/abutment during the healing period as
this may hinder the osseointegration.
• If any skin irritation is noted the Baha Softband should be
removed to let the skin rest. If irritation persist, contact your
hearing care professional.
