19 Cleaning the Air Filter

19 Cleaning the Air Filter

If there is a noticeable loss of
engine power
19.1.1
Remove the carburetor box cover.

► Move the Master Control lever (1) to the nor‐
mal run position.
► Loosen the knob (2) in direction of arrow.
► Remove the carburetor box cover (3).

Removing the air filter
► Clean away loose dirt from around the filter.

► Unscrew the slotted nuts (4).
► Remove the filter (5) and separate the two
halves of the filter.

► Loosen the screw (6) in the carburetor box
cover and remove the prefilter (7).
19.1.3
Cleaning the air filter
► Knock the filter out on the palm of your hand
or blow it clear with compressed air from the
inside outwards.
If filter is caked with dirt:
► Wash the filter in STIHL special cleaner (spe‐
cial accessory) or a clean, non-flammable sol‐
ution (e.g. warm soapy water) and then dry.
NOTICE
Do not use a brush to clean the fleece filter
► Always replace damaged filters.
19.1.4
Installing the air filter
► Reassemble the filter components and check
that the choke shutter (8) and torsion spring
are properly seated.
► The end of the spring (9) must engage the slot
(arrow).
► Secure the main filter and prefiler in position.
► Fit the carburetor box cover.

20 Adjusting the Carburetor

20.1

General Information

The carburetor comes from the factory with a
standard setting.
This setting provides an optimum fuel-air mixture
under most operating conditions.
