11. Getting Started
Caution: Before you start to use The A-V Impulse foot compression system controller read the
Operating Precautions, Contraindications and Symbol Definition sections.
Note:
When the Impad cover(s) are fitted correctly and the controller is switched on the patient
will feel an impulse under the arch of their foot.
11.1 Sequence of Operation
• Fit the Impad cover(s) to the patient.
• Connect the tubing assembly(s) to the appropriate Air Output
Socket(s) on the rear of the controller (A).
• To switch on the controller press the I/O switch to the on (I)
position. The display will illuminate and the controller will go
through a self-test routine (B).
• The controller will display service and model data.
• Following the self-test a 5 second countdown is displayed in
the top left of the display. The controller will display the current
patient hours and total use hours.
• Press the

button(s) to start the treatment once the
countdown is complete.

It is recommended that the "Patient Hours" function is reset to zero when the controller is
used on a new patient.
Patient Hours reset is done by pressing either preset button during the 5 second self-test
countdown.

The bottom section of the display shows the controller's status. When

second before it is delivered. The impulse is shown on the Impad icon as it is delivered.
In the event of an alarm condition the frowning controller icon is displayed together with a fault
code. For more information on fault codes refer to the label on the hanging handle or Fault Code
section of this manual (Section 13.1).
11.4 Night Mode
In Night Mode the audible alarm sounds less frequently and the display flashes to draw
attention to the controller in dimly lit conditions, minimising patient disturbance.
