Tool / battery protection system
The tool is equipped with a tool/battery protection sys-
tem. This system automatically cuts o power to the
motor to extend tool and battery life. The tool will auto-
matically stop during operation if the tool or battery is
p l a c e d u n d e r o n e o f t h e f o l l o w i n g c o n d i t i o n s :
Overload protection
When the tool/battery is operated in a manner that
causes it to draw an abnormally high current, the tool
a u t o m a t i c a l l y s t o p s w i t h o u t a n y i n d i c a t i o n . I n t h i s s i t -
uation, turn the tool o and stop the application that
caused the tool to become overloaded. Then turn the
t o o l o n t o r e s t a r t .
Overheat protection
When the tool/battery is overheated, the tool stops
automatically. In this situation, let the tool and battery
cool before turning the tool on again.
NOTE: When the tool is overheated, the lamp blinks.
Overdischarge protection
When the battery capacity is not enough, the tool stops
automatically. In this case, remove the battery from the
tool and charge the battery.
Protections against other causes
Protection system is also designed for other causes that could
d a m a g e t h e t o o l a n d a l l o w s t h e t o o l t o s t o p a u t o m a t i c a l l y .
T a k e a l l t h e f o l l o w i n g s t e p s t o c l e a r t h e c a u s e s , w h e n t h e t o o l
has been brought to a temporary halt or stop in operation.

Turn the tool o , and then turn it on again to restart.

Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them with
recharged battery(ies).

Let the tool and battery(ies) cool down.

Electric brake
This tool is equipped with an electric brake. If the tool

Electronic function
T h e t o o l s e q u i p p e d w i t h e l e c t r o n i c f u n c t i o n a r e e a s y t o
operate because of the following feature(s).
Constant speed control
Electronic speed control for obtaining constant speed.
Possible to get fine finish, because the rotating speed is
k e p t c o n s t a n t e v e n u n d e r l o a d c o n d i t i o n .
Switch action
WARNING:
Before installing the battery car-
tridge into the tool, always check to see that the
switch trigger actuates properly and returns to
the " OFF " position when released.
WARNING:
NEVER defeat the lock-o button
by taping down or some other means. A switch with
a negated lock-o button may result in unintentional
operation and serious personal injury.
WARNING:
NEVER use the tool if it runs when
you simply pull the switch trigger without press-
ing the lock-o button. A switch in need of repair
m a y r e s u l t i n u n i n t e n t i o n a l o p e r a t i o n a n d s e r i o u s
personal injury. Return tool to a Makita service center
for proper repairs BEFORE further usage.
To prevent the switch trigger from being accidentally
pulled, a lock-o button is provided. To start the tool,
depress the lock-o button and pull the switch trigger.
Tool speed is increased by increasing pressure on the
s w i t c h t r i g g e r . R e l e a s e t h e s w i t c h t r i g g e r t o s t o p .

Speed adjusting dial

The tool speed can be steplessly adjusted between .8
m/s and . m/s by turning the adjusting dial. Higher
speed is obtained when the dial is turned in the direc-
tion of number ; lower speed is obtained when it is
turned in the direction of number 1.
Select the proper speed for the workpiece to be cut.
NOTICE:
The speed adjusting dial can be turned
only as far as 6 and back to . Do not force it past
6 or , or the speed adjusting function may no
longer work.
NOTICE:
Plastic materials may melt when cut-
ting at high speeds.
Lighting up the front lamp
CAUTION:
Do not look in the light or see the
source of light directly.
Pull the switch trigger to light up the lamp. The lamp
keeps on lighting while the switch trigger is being pulled.
