4. BEFORE FIRST USE

■ Carefully unpack the appliance and remove all packaging materials.
■ Check for damage that may have occurred during transport. If any parts are damaged or missing, do not
use the appliance and return it to the retail outlet immediately.
■ Clean the removable brewing accessories that come into contact with your drink before using them for the
first time (→ CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE).
■ Before first use, follow the steps in the PREHEATING section to flush your espresso machine with a
cycle of the Coffee button. Discard the water from the cup and rinse well. The machine is then ready for
preheating and making espresso.

5. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

5.1. PREHEATING
For an optimal flavour, preheat the espresso machine and the brewing accessories.
1. Fill the water tank with water up to the "MAX" mark. The water tank can be removed from the appliance to
add water, if required.
2. Plug the espresso machine into a wall socket.
3. Ensure the Steam control knob is in the
espresso machine ON.
4. Insert the filter (without coffee grounds) into the portafilter by aligning the raised dot on the filter with the
notch on the portafilter. Rotate the filter clockwise until it stops to secure it in place inside the portafilter.
5. Insert the portafilter into the group head with the handle aligned to the
the portafilter is properly inserted, and then turn the handle to the right until it reaches the

6. Place a cup on the drip tray under the portafilter spouts.
7. Press the Coffee button to pump water from the water tank into the boiler. When water starts to flow into
the cup, press the Coffee button to stop pumping water.
NOTE: Perform step 7 only on first use. Skip to the next step for subsequent uses.
The appliance may make a noise when pumping water for the first time. This is normal as the appliance
releases the air inside. The noise will disappear after approximately 20 seconds.
8. When the Coffee button indicator turns green, press the Coffee button to fill the cup with hot water. Press
again to stop. Let the hot water sit in the cup to preheat.
9. Follow the next section to make espresso.
NOTE: When the water is preheating in the boiler, the Coffee button indicator will be switched off. The indicator
will turn green once the water has finished preheating.

5.2. MAKING ESPRESSO

After preheating the espresso machine and the brewing accessories, you can start to prepare your espresso.
1. To remove the portafilter from the group head, turn the handle of the portafilter to the left to the
UNLOCKED position.
2. Use the measuring spoon to add 1 tablespoon of ground coffee into the filter for a single shot, or 2
tablespoons for a double shot.
3. Distribute the coffee grounds evenly in the filter and tamp the coffee grounds with the tamper at the end of
the measuring spoon.

7. After brewing, remove the portafilter from the group head by turning the handle to the left to the
UNLOCKED position. Discard the used coffee grounds, ensuring that you press on the plastic tab to
hold the portafilter in place. Rinse away any coffee residue and continue brewing the next cup.
8. Press the Power button to turn OFF the appliance after use.
9. Clean the appliance and removable accessories after each use (see CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE).
NOTE: During coffee preparation, it is normal for the Coffee button indicator to switch on and off. The Coffee
button indicator switches off when the water is preheating in the boiler, and turns green once preheated. Always
wait until the indicator is green before pressing the Coffee button to make espresso.
