Attachment of The Skull Clamp to The Spine Table Adaptor
Once the skull clamp is applied to the patient's skull, the surgeon will maneuver the patient to the
surgical position that is required for the procedure. With the patient in this position, the
surgeon will hold the patient's head and the skull clamp and request that the components for the
base unit be brought up for attachment.
1 The swivel adaptor should be brought up for attachment to the skull clamp. The mounting
screw of the large starburst on the swivel adaptor should be inserted into the large
starburst of the skull clamp and turned clockwise and tightened. Care should be taken to
maintain the position of the patient's head as required by the surgeon.
2. Securely fasten the skull clamp to the MAYFIELD Spine Table Adaptor by attachment to the
Swivel Adaptor. Close Locking Lever. Turn all of the Locking Knobs of the other components of
the adaptor clockwise, making certain all starburst teeth are fully meshed (where applicable) on
all joints of the Spine Table Adaptor after adjustments are complete.
When using a skull clamp or headrest with this device, be certain to securely fasten
it. Before fully tightening, always be certain that the starburst teeth of the
components are the same size and mesh properly. Failure to do so may result in
serious patient injury. Failure to fully tighten all adjustment portions of this or any
similar device may result in serious patient injury.
Always make sure the Spine Table Adaptor is properly secured to the operating table.
Use only MAYFIELD brand cranial stabilization components with this device. In
instances where a horseshoe headrest may be used with this product, use the
traction system supplied by the bed manufacturer and not the pulley rod.
NOTE: Swivel Adaptor of the A2600R is used in figure 9. Attachment of the standard Swivel
Adaptor is the same for the A2600M.
