Heart Reference Sensor (HRS)
EVHRS
For figures 1 through 6 please refer to page 86.
Description
The heart reference sensor (also referred to as 'HRS') can be used with the EV1000 clinical platform NI and HemoSphere advanced
monitoring platform to noninvasively measure blood pressure and key hemodynamic parameters using a compatible Edwards
finger cuff(s) wrapped around the finger. When using this method it is necessary to use a heart reference sensor, which
compensates the hydrostatic pressure changes due to difference in height between the finger and heart. The heart reference
sensor is a non-serviceable part.
Intended Use
The heart reference sensor is intended for use with a compatible Edwards noninvasive monitoring system - composed of
compatible monitor, pressure source (pump), heart reference sensor, compatible Edwards finger cuff(s) and pressure controller -
for noninvasive measurement of blood pressure and associated hemodynamic parameters. Refer to the operator's manual of the
compatible Edwards monitor being used for specific information on the intended use environment and patient population.
Instructions for Use
Unfold the cover of this Instruction For Use to show the figures corresponding to the instructions.
CAUTION: Do not use a damaged heart reference sensor. This may result in inaccurate measurements or may damage the EV1000
clinical platform NI or HemoSphere advanced monitoring platform.
Connect the Heart Reference Sensor to the Pressure Controller
1. Connect the heart reference sensor to the pressure controller (Fig 2).
Zero the Heart Reference Sensor
Prior to every measurement using the heart reference sensor, it needs to be zeroed.
2. Navigate to the Zero & Waveform screen on the EV1000 or HemoSphere monitor. Refer to monitor operator's manual
for instructions.
3. Vertically align the two ends of the heart reference sensor (Fig 3) and touch the Zero button - 0 - (Fig 4).
NOTE: Keep both ends of the heart reference sensor vertically aligned until the Zeroing procedure has ended.
Attach the Heart Reference Sensor to the Patient
4. Attach the finger end of the heart reference sensor to a single compatible Edwards finger cuff (Fig 5).
5. Attach the heart end of the heart reference sensor to the patient at the phlebostatic axis (Fig 6), level by using an HRS clip.
NOTE: Changing body position during the measurement may require reapplication of the heart end.
