2.7.3
REPACKING THE FLUID SECTION
1.
Remove the foot valve assembly using the steps in the "Servicing
the Valves" procedure (Section 2.7.2).
The outlet valve does not need to be disassembled
i
from the piston for this procedure.
2.
Using an 11/16" wrench, remove the hose from the back of the
fluid section.
3.
Loosen the lock nut (Fig. 10, item 1) from the pump housing to
release the entire fluid section. Tap the lock nut with a mallet in
order to loosen.
4.
Slide the fluid section forward until the piston is out of the
T-slot on the slider assembly and remove the entire fluid section
assembly (2).
5.
Slide the piston (3) out through the bottom of the cylinder (4).
6.
Using a vice on the flats of the cylinder (Fig. 9, item 4), loosen and
remove the upper packing retaining nut (5) and piston guide (6).
7.
Remove the upper (7) and lower packings (8) from the cylinder
(4).
8.
Clean the cylinder and install the new upper and lower packings.
Refer to the Fig. 12 below for proper packing orientation.

10.
Place the lock nut (Fig. 11, item 9) over the cylinder (4).
11.
Insert the piston guide (6) into the retainer nut (5). Thread the
retainer nut (5) into the cylinder until it is hand tight.
12.
Slide the piston guide tool (included in the repacking kit) over the
top of the piston (3) and insert the piston through the bottom of
the cylinder. Using a rubber mallet, tap the bottom of the piston
(3) lightly until the piston is in position in the cylinder.
Coat the piston guide tool and the piston with
i
grease before inserting them into the cylinder.
13.
Using a wrench, tighten the retainer nut (5) securely. Torque to
300 in.-lbs.
14.
Slide the top of the piston into the T-slot on the slider assembly.
15.
Thread the lock nut (9) up into the pump assembly to secure the
fluid section to the pump. Tap with a mallet to lock into place.
16.
Reassemble the foot valve assembly into the cylinder. Torque to
300 in.-lbs.
17.
Apply grease to the O-ring on the foot valve and replace the
pusher valve assembly. Secure with the clip. The pusher valve
assembly should face the rear of the pump at a diagonal angle.
18.
For Skid units, insert the elbow on the siphon assembly into the
bottom of the foot valve housing. Push the retaining clip up into
the groove inside the foot valve housing to secure the siphon
assembly in position. Thread the return hose into the pump
block and tighten securely.
19.
Place the front cover on the pump housing and secure in position
using the four front cover screws.
20.
Turn on the sprayer by following the procedure in the "Operation"
section of this manual and check for leaks.
Repacking kit P/N 704-586 is available. For best
i
results use all parts supplied in this kit.
