7.2 Notes on safety
Danger of explosion due to excessive operating frequencies and piston
speeds
Excessively high operating frequencies and piston speeds heat up the cylinder
impermissibly.
1. Observe the max. permissible operating frequency (double stroke).
2. Observe max. permissible piston speed. See
7.3 Preparation
General requirements
• Make sure that there are no persons or objects in the stroke path of the prod-
uct (accident protection).
• Make sure the product is fully assembled and connected.
Specifications for use in explosive atmospheres
• Make sure that the seals are integrated in the plug and not damaged (explo-
sion protection).
• Make sure that the product is completely closed and undamaged (explosion
protection).
7.4 Setting the speed
Notes
• Ensure that the check-choke valves are correctly screwed into the cylinder
cover. Observe thread length (material protection).
Procedure
1. Slowly increase the pressure to the desired operating pressure.
2. Open the check-choke valves slightly.
3. Slowly open the check-choke valves further until the desired piston speed is
reached.
7.5 Setting the pneumatic cushioning
Notes
• The ideal operating point is reached when the following conditions are met:
– Piston stop is barely audible.
– Vibration of the moving mass when entering the damping phase is mini-
mal.
• The ideal operating point is exceeded when the following conditions are met:
– Piston stop becomes louder.
– Vibration of the moving mass increases.
• Loud exhaust and impact noises can cause hearing damage. Set pneumatic
cushioning correctly (injury prevention, material protection).
• Excessive stop forces can damage cylinders. Adapt the pneumatic cushioning
to the load during operation (material protection).
• The pneumatic cushioning must be readjusted if at least 1 of the following
conditions applies:
– Change of the piston speed
– Change of the moving mass
– Change of the operating pressure
• Depending on the configuration, the cylinder is equipped with 2 pneumatic
cushionings.
• Always adjust the cushioning on both sides of the cylinder.
The setting sequence does not matter.
• A different number of turns may be required on the flow control screws.

Procedure
Fig. 4: Set the cushioning
1 Extracting piston rod
Fig. 5: Screw in the flow control screws
Fig. 6: Screw out the flow control screws
1. Screw in both flow control screws clockwise until the stop.
2. Screw out both flow control screws 1 full turn.
3. Move the piston repeatedly from end position to end position.
4. Check exactly whether the ideal operating point has been reached based on
the piston stop and vibration behavior.
5. If the ideal operating point has not yet been reached, reduce cushioning:
Slowly screw out the flow control screws.
6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 until the ideal operating point is reached for both cushion-
ings. See g Notes.
7. If the ideal operating point is exceeded: Screw in the flow control screws until
the ideal operating point is reached again.
8 Operation
The device is operated through the system. Observe the information in the sys-
tem documentation.
8.1 Basic requirements
General requirements
• Make sure that there are no persons or objects in the stroke path of the prod-
uct (accident protection).
• Never switch off, modify or bypass safety devices.
In case of malfunctions during operation
• In case of a malfunction that presents an immediate danger for employees or
systems: Switch off product.
