MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION

CAUTION!
- Disconnect the plug before performing any cleaning, maintenance or repair operation. Always wear
suitable clothing and working gloves.
- When the machine or part of it is lifted to carry out maintenance operations, always remember to use
suitable fixing tools such as holders and safety locks.
- When carrying out maintenance operations and/or when the machine is tilted without safety locks or
supports, never leave it unguarded in places where inexperienced people and children could have
easy access to it.
- Protect the environment: carefully dispose of used oils, petrol and any other pollutant product!
- Effective maintenance and correct lubrication help to keep the machine fully efficient.
ENGINE
For the lubrication intervals, follow the instructions provided in the engine service manual. Replace the engine
oil within the first 20 working hours, then every 100 hours or once a year when replacing the oil filter (fig. 8 – oil
drain plug). Use SAE 30 oil, 1,4 litres for INTEK 10 HP without changing the filter and 1,7 litres when changing
the filter too (fig. 4). Use SAE 30 oil 1,6 litres for Vanguard 14 HP. Replace the engine filter (fig. 8A). The first
precaution is to ensure that the engine is correctly serviced with the air filter, cooling fins and cylinder
head clean and the oil at the correct level. Check the air filter every 4 hours, or even more often in very
dusty environments (fig. 3 – fig. 3A). Make sure that the engine cooling intake grid is always clean.

HYDROSTATIC AXLE

Clean the hydraulic motor cooling fans often and every 4 working hours in summer and in very dusty
environments. Change the engine oil after the first 50 hours, and then every 200 hours. Use 1.85 litres of
10W60 synthetic engine oil. To replace the oil do as follows:
1. remove the two taps (fig. 23)
2. remove the tap using a screwdriver (fig. 24)
3. screw the two taps (fig. 23) back into the place (tightening torque 13~17 Nm)
4. fill with oil and replace the tap (fig. 24)
5. check that the expansion tank is empty. The level is 12 mm below the bottom of the expansion tank (fig.
22).
MOWER DECK WHEELS
Lubricate with grease the spindles of the deck wheels every 20 hours.

SHARPENING THE BLADES

A blunt blade pulls at the grass, giving it an unsightly appearance. The cutting edges of both blades must
therefore always be kept sharp; worn blades must be replaced. Remove the mower deck then proceed as
follows (fig. 11):
1) Remove the guard above the deck by unscrewing the two screws (fig. 2, no. 13).
2) Remove the pin (fig. 12, ref. E).
3) Turn the lever anti-clockwise (fig. 12, ref. C).
4) Remove the PTO belt (fig. 12, ref. F).
5) Release the fork (fig. 13).
6) Disconnect the pin (fig. 2, no. 11), pull the mower deck forward and place it laterally (fig. 11). Pay attention
not to crook the adjustment cable. Worn blades do not ensure a perfect cut and loose their balance making the
mower deck vibrate. If the mower deck is still not well-balanced once the blades have been re-sharpened, it is
then recommended to insert a screwdriver into the central hole of the blade and to grind it until the blade
becomes perfectly horizontal, "well-balanced". To dismount a blade, hold it firmly wearing gloves and loosen
the central screw.
