1. SR 700 Fan Unit General Description
The SR 700 is a battery powered fan unit that,
together with filters and an approved respirator inlet
covering (facepiece) is a NIOSH 42CFR84 approved
powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR).
The fan unit equipped with filters supplies filtered air at
above-atmospheric pressure through a breathing
hose to the facepiece to provide respiratory protection
against certain particulates. The generated air
pressure prevents pollutants from the surroundings
from penetrating into the inlet coverings.
The SR 700 can be used as an alternative to filter
respirators in all situations for which these are
recommended. This applies particularly to work that is
hard, warm or of long-duration. If you feel uncertain
about the selection and care of the equipment,
consult your work supervisor or get in touch with
Sundström Technical Support.
IMPORTANT: THIS RESPIRATOR IS INTENDED
TO BE USED ONLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN
ORGANIZED RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
PROGRAM WHICH COMPLIES WITH THE
REQUIREMENTS OF "PRACTICES FOR RESPIRA-
TORY PROTECTION", Z88.2-2015 AVAILABLE
FROM AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS
INSTITUTE (ANSI), 11 WEST 42ND STREET, NEW
YORK, N.Y. 10036, OR WITH THE REQUIREMENTS
OF OSHA STANDARD 29 CFR 1910.134 AVAILA-
BLE FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR,
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINIS-
TRATION AND/OR OTHER PERTINENT NATIO-
NALLY RECOGNIZED STANDARDS.
NIOSH approval (USA)
The SR 700 is approved in the USA by NIOSH for use
in environments where hazards are known and
characterized; not immediately dangerous to life or
health and oxygen deficiency is not present. The
SR 700 respirator components and filtration media
must be used only in the configurations indicated on
the NIOSH Approval Labels. Refer to NIOSH Approval
Label for list of approved components.
2. Safety Precautions
2.1 NIOSH Cautions and Limitations
NIOSH Approval
For a listing of the components of NIOSH approved
Sundström SR 700 Fan Unit System, refer to the
NIOSH approval label. The components of a NIOSH
approved SR 700 Fan Unit powered air purifying
respirator (PAPR) includes:
– Fan Unit
– Approved respirator facepiece
(respiratory inlet covers)
– Breathing tube
– Battery pack (Lithium-ion)
– Battery charger (Lithium-ion)
– Airflow indicator (flow meter)
– Particulate filter
NIOSH Cautions and Limitations
A – Not for use in atmospheres containing less than
19.5 percent oxygen.
B – Not for use in atmospheres immediately dangerous
to life or health.
C – Do not exceed maximum use concentrations
established by regulatory standards.
F– Do not use powered air-purifying respirators if
airflow is less than four cfm (115 lpm) for tight fitting
facepieces or six cfm (170 lpm) for hoods and/or
helmets.
I– Contains electrical parts which have not been
evaluated as an ignition source in flammable or
explosive atmospheres.
J– Failure to properly use and maintain this product
could result in injury or death.
L– Follow the manufacturer's User's Instructions for
changing cartridges, canister and/or filters.
M– All approved respirators shall be selected, fitted,
used, and maintained in accordance with MSHA,
OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
N– Never substitute, modify, add, or omit parts. Use
only exact replacement parts in the configuration as
specified by the manufacturer.
O– Refer to User's Instructions, and/or maintenance
manuals for information on use and maintenance of
these respirators.
P– NIOSH does not evaluate respirators for use as
surgical masks.
S– Special or critical User's Instructions and/or specific
use limitations apply. Refer to User's Instructions
before donning.
S-Special or Critical User's Instructions
The SR 700 PAPR Assembly is NIOSH approved for
tight fitting as outlined in the System Description and
Use Section 4.
The SR 700 must always be used with a particulate
filter, SR 510 or SR 710.
