3. HOW TO OPERATE
3.1 Battery
The SC-20e sound level meter is fed by a 6LF22-type alkaline or lithium battery or by direct
current. For DC supply use the
should only be connected to the SC-20e through the A-100 converter.
The battery is placed in the back of the SC-20e and is protected by a top.
The battery must be replaced when the warning "LO BAT" appears on the
display.
3.2 Microphone
Check that the microphone is perfectly screwed by using only the force of your fingers,
without tools.
Verify the preamplifier to be connected properly (see connection and disconnection of the
preamplifier section).
3.3 Output connections
The outputs must be connected before the SC-20e is switched on. All are found on
connector 7 (Output).
Selector 8 selects the type of digital output. If the digital output is not used, selector 8 should
be turned to the position Off.
3.4 Beginning of a measurement
Turn switch 6 to the On position to turn the SC-20e on. "SC-20e" appears on the display and
after this the measurement starts; "run" and the value of the selected function appear on the
display.
3.5 Function and frequency weighting selection
Selectors 10 and 11 select the function that appears on the SC-20e's display, printouts and
DC output. Selector 12 selects the frequency weighting. The maximum value of the selected
function is displayed pressing the button Maximum.
If the selection of the selectors 10, 11 or 12 is changed while the SC-20e is measuring, a
new measurement begins and the data of the measurement in course get lost. To be able to
consult the other functions the measurement must be ended.
3.6 End of a measurement
The button Stop ends the measurement. The display then blinks and the other functions can
be consulted using the selector 11, 10 and the button Maximum without the information
being lost. If the selected function is not available, three dashes appear on the screen.
When Run is pressed a new measurement begins and the results of the previous
measurement are lost.
