6 Use
6.1 General
Check the equipment for completeness and damage. Do not use the equipment if it is damaged; in that
case contact the Holmatro dealer.
WARNING
Make sure you are up to date on all safety regulations and that you have mastered the use
of all equipment of the system you are going to work with.
Never try to connect or disconnect hydraulic couplers if the equipment is being used or if
the system is under pressure.
6.2 Before use
• Connect the hydraulic hoses between the pump and the tool. Refer to chapter 5.2.
6.3 During use
WARNING
Ensure that no mechanical stress or electrical voltage is on the cables and/or wires. Do not
load the tool with open cutting jaws or without material in the cutting jaws.

For cutting cables the cutter tip must be greased with Molykote (Part number 100.581.081).
This greatly extends its service life
• Open the cutting jaws with the quick-action coupler (Fig. 2/2) or by removing the locking pin
(Fig. 2/5).
• Put the cable in the cutting jaws.
• Close the quick-action coupler or lock the cutting jaw with the pin.
• Set the pressure relief valve on the pump in the "operation" position. Operate the pump. The cutter
piston extends and the cutter starts its operation.
• Set the pressure relief valve on the pump in the "neutral" position to let retract the cutter (spring
return).
The pump is set to operation position by pulling the joystick of valve M323 in "A" position.
Releasing the handle will stop the action but the cutting blade "C" will remain in position. After the
end of the cutting procedure, the blade is retracted by pushing the handle in the "B" position until it
is fully retracted. As this tool retracts with hydraulic pressure, the return action can generate 8 tons
to return the plunger into the cylinder. So it is important to make sure that there is no cable material
between the back of the cutter blade and the two yoke plates. This material can damage the piston
rod, blade guide and dirt wiper.
To release the pressure (in the return line) of the system, you have to pull the handle of the valve for
1 second in the "A" position. See also the manual of the M323 valve.
6.4 After use
6.4.1 Shut down and disconnect
• Return the cutting jaws to its original home position
• Disconnect the hydraulic hoses. Refer to chapter 5.3.
