2.2.2
Field of view
The flame detector has a horizontal field of view of 90° and a vertical field of
view of 90°. The typical field of view and detectable range of a 0.9 m hydrogen
plume fire at standard sensitivity is illustrated below. 100 % = 40 m
2.2.3
Advanced optical verification
There are three infrared emitters located on the fascia of the detector which
emit light onto the internal and external surfaces of the sapphire lens. The
reflections of IR light are continually monitored by the detector and if they are
disturbed by contamination on the inside or outside of the lens, the detector
signals an optical fault.
The optics of the flame detector can also be checked using the
Dräger Flame Simulator FS-5000 (serial number of J01001 onwards).
2.2.4
Explosive atmosphere protection
The flame detector is certified for use in some potentially explosive
atmospheres. The explosion protection approval is valid for use of the device in
gas/vapour-air mixtures of combustible gases and vapours under atmospheric
conditions. The explosion protection is not valid for use in oxygen-enriched
atmospheres.

WARNING
Explosion hazard!
A damaged flame path could lead to an explosion. Opening the flame detector
in an explosive atmosphere may cause an explosion.
► Do not open the flame detector in presence of an explosive atmosphere.
► Ensure that the flame path of the flame detector is not damaged during
installation.
CAUTION
Risk of damage to the device!
Incorrect disassembly of the flame detector may damage the device.
► Only appropriately trained service personnel may open the enclosure.
2.2.5
Status indicator
The status of the flame detector is indicated by the colour of a status LED
located below the lens:

Steady OFF
Steady Green
Flashing Green
Steady Yellow
Red
Two yellow flashes at start up
Four yellow flashes at start up
2.3
Intended use
The flame detector is designed for use in areas that may contain a potentially
explosive atmosphere.
It is used to monitor an area and trigger the necessary control actions upon the
detection of fire or flame within its field of view.
