Connection of the functional earth BE
The functional earth BE is a galvanic connection between the GND potential of the electronics and the
metallic, earthed container. An additional electrode is required for non-metallic containers.
The functional earth BE is either established via the blue wire of the connection cable or (for probes
with a metallic process connection that are installed in a metallic container) the process connection of the
metal housing or the connection head of the probe can be used here.
The functional earth BE has to be connected to the container potential! This connection should
be made over the shortest distance and routed with straight wire. (Shortening or lengthening of
the cable is possible, using a single-lead cable 0.25...1.5 mm
Please take note that the use of a DC / DC-transducer calls briefly for a higher current than the
operating current when initially switching on the equipment. Therefore the power supply must
have enough low-impedance!

The probe can be mounted centrically or eccentrically. If possible,
the probe should be installed free of material flows. For a measure-
ment independent of the filling cone, we recommend that the probe
is mounted at a ¼ of the diameter.
To guarantee that the probe measures linearly and switches off at
all times, it has to be mounted more than 15 mm above the bottom
BE
of the container.
It is possible to mount the probe at a 30° angle to the vertical, taking
into account that the smallest side distance to the container wall is
not less than 30 mm.
The probe can be mounted using specially designed brackets or
crimp/clamp mountings available as accessories.
Please take care that there is no material bridging between probe
and container wall.
When mounting the probe from below, the conditions in the con-
tainer are the same.
