6. Troubleshooting
Follow the guidelines below to ensure local communication via RS-485 and remote communication via GPRS in
the installation.
6.1. Local communication via RS-485
1.
Connect the PC to connector J3 of the communications card AAX0001.
2.
Follow the steps indicated in Chapter "6. Troubleshooting" of the Accessories for communication via
RS-485 manual.
6.2. Remote GPRS communication
Mobile phone operator
Check the requirements of the operator and the GPRS network coverage in the installation.
Select the M2M rate.
Service requirements: public IP address and TCP connections open in port 7128 (check that the port
used is not blocked by the firewall of the source network).
SIM Rate
Free the SIM card of its PIN access code.
Free the voice mail and call divert line.
Check that the SIM card has a balance or is up to date on bill payment.
Configuration
Check the local communication via RS-485 by following the guidelines indicated in "6.1. Local
communication via RS-485".
APN parameters: check the APN parameters using the INGECON SUN Manager or make sure the use
customised APN option is ticked if necessary in the installation.
GSM connection: for cases in which GSM connection only is to be established, the GPRS option must be
disabled in the configuration of the modem.
Bands 850 and 1900MHz: check that this option is enabled in the INGECON SUN Manager for USA or
South America, where GSM/GPRS works on bands 850 and 1900 MHz.
Modem status LED
Check the status of the LEDs. Once the unit has initialised, check that the DL3 LED (red) is flashing slowly, and:
When the DL2 LED (green) flashes, the modem indicates that it is ready for GSM calls.
When the DL2 LED (green) flashes four times, the modem indicates that it is connected to GPRS.
See "Status LED" for further information on the modem status LEDs.
INGECON SUN Manager
Follow the guidelines indicated in "5. Connection of the remote PC". In the event of a communication fault with
the INGECON SUN Manager:
Check the date. This shows the last date on which the modem modified its IP address to the system.
Normally, the local date is no more than one day different to the date indicated.
Perform a ping to the IP address in the GPRS connection window.
If the socket is established and there is no communication with the units, check the local communication
via RS-485 (see section "6.1. Local communication via RS-485").
